In the spirit of past fantasy football, basketball, and baseball madness, espn.com has decided to return with yet another year of Baseball Challenge.
It’s very simple, really. There’s no draft! You pick from a list of players, whose statistics are right there in front of you so you can see who’s got the power and who’s got the speed and who’s . . . well, a warm body. You’re given $50 million for ten players (the tenth being, this year, the starting rotation of the team of your choice). The game costs nothing, trades are free (nobody has to approve them, even) and play begins April 2, with what looks like a game or three between Texas and Toronto. And since there’s no draft, everyone can have, for example, Von Hayes, or whoever floats your boat. Gone are the days of ranking your players!
Whoever wants to join is more than welcome. The league name is SDMB and the password is Cecil. As always, I’m the Improbable Probables.
Airbeck, try going here. If that doesn’t work, go to espn.go.com, click on the link for fantasy games (upper left-side of the screen, word is "fantasy), then you should see it on the screen with the orangeish word “new!” by it.
Rest assured, blur, I picked his name solely because I was trying to think of someone somewhat obscure. Last I heard from him was in a pop culture tournament about a year and a half ago.
iampunha, since your league is filling up, and you advertised your league in my thread about my league, allow me to do the same. If anybody wants to join my Yahoo league , go here and follow the simple instructions:
ESPN groups allow for up to 50 members. This is, in part, because there’s no draft.
Perhaps I was in error, but I took your OP to mean you thought there were no open leagues for dopers who wanted in for fantasy baseball. My apologies if I was incorrect in that assumption. I was merely assuring people that in case they wanted, there was another league open. And FWIW had I not already been in another Yahoo league (and Yahoo members are allowed, unless I’m mistaken, to have only one team per contest per username) I’d have joined yours.
As of yet my league has four members. It’s got a while to go before it even approaches filling up. Heck, every member of John Corrado’s Yahoo league and zev_steinhardt’s Yahoo league could join my league and we’d still have room for over 20 more teams.
