My favorite response to this claim of Orwellian oppression was:
“This isn’t the same at all. For one thing, Orwell had a publisher.”

Has there been any more fallout for Mr. Hawley? I assume there’s no chance he’ll resign but maybe he won’t get reelected?
A poll on whether he should resign showed a roughly even split in Missouri (given the margin of error - it was actually 51% in favor). If he ran today I suspect he’d lose. However he is only a third of the way into his term - he won’t be running again until the next presidential election and that’s a longgg time in politics. Since he cannot be recalled he has plenty of time to get his pale red state back on his side.
There are senators calling for him and Cruz in particular to be censured, which is quite possible - it only requires a majority vote. But it also doesn’t really amount to much and no doubt it would be spun as partisan pettiness if it was a straight party-line vote.
There have also been calls to expel them which isn’t very likely to happen. Like impeachment that requires a 2/3 vote in the Senate.
More backlash for GOP’s Hawley as Loews Hotel cancels event-
He is determined to win the idiot racist vote.
“If these corporations don’t want conservatives to speak, they should just be honest about it. But to equate leading a debate on the floor of the Senate with inciting violence is a lie, and it’s dangerous.
Josh, if you are okay with the violent overturning of an election you should just be honest about it.
Raises fist in air to Josh. Middle finger extended.
Traitor.
I’m pretty sure this won’t be nearly as lucrative nor as bolstering-his-conservative-bona-fides-impactful as Mr. Hawley prolly hoped, so there’s that:
He could have had his book serialized in any number of sympathetic magazines, like Horse & Hound Magazine, Horse & Rider Magazine, The Horse Magazine, or Everything Horse Magazine, among many others.
I’m glad to see that his ‘first amendment rights’ have been restored…
Regnery, publisher of such blockbusters as
Yes, I’d say he’s found the correct publisher.
But but but… Now that he’s found a publisher, how does this play into his narrative that his freedom of speech was quashed by the evil lefties?
I mean, one private company decided that they would not make enough money from him, and another one decided that they could make money. It’s capitalism baby.
Why does Hawley hate Free Enterprise?
Yes, I’m confused. Does he have first amendment rights, or were they revoked? This is so hard to keep straight!
LOL, because without the experts, the pandemic would have just been a pleasant diversion.
From time to time, I enjoy perusing rationalwiki. Just a few weeks ago, I saw their page on Regnery Publishing. What delightful company they cultivate.
Peter Sagal, host of NPR’s Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me, called it:
In case it doesn’t come through, after Hawley called the dropping of his book Orwellian, on January 7, Sagal wrote: "I will always remember when the Ministry of Truth seized Winston Smith’s diary so it had to be published on Regnery instead.
Then, when it was announce that Hawley’s book will actually be published there, he followed up with “Called it!”
