What about the goobers, goofballs, and knucklehead mcspazitrons?
Lots of good points above, however, ultimately…
I like variety. Bring on the kilts!
Mcspazitrons? Nice!
They’re included too. Basically what I’m saying is that most anyone who’d wear a kilt is probably somewhat socially awkward, or if that’s not the case, they’re involved in activities and/or groups of people that are far outside the mainstream.
Put another way, wearing a kilt as everyday clothing is about on par with wearing comic book T-shirts as an adult. There’s a reason they dress Sheldon Cooper like they do…
I’d rank it more like wearing an Indian headdress or a Hawaiian grass skirt or lederhosen or something. Even if you have some connection to the culture, it’s not really “every day” wear and, at best, you’ll look like a goof. Comic book t-shirts might be goofy but there’s no ethic cultural component to it.
I love kilts. I love men in kilts. My lean-but-fit BF looks very fine in his leather kilt, but that may tend more toward the fetish side of things. My husband, on the other hand, would look just fine in one, too, but he absolutely refuses to wear anything that may be misconstrued as girl clothes.
Between being a pagan and volunteering at a small Highland Games event here, I see men (and women) in kilts all the time and it is just part of the scenery.
I honestly do LIKE some of the massive kilt wearing doofuses I know - maybe about a third of them, but I cannot deny they are massive doofuses. Two thirds of them however, fall somewhere either in the creepy or really annoying quadrants of the doofus chart, rather than the charming or ok-when-you-get-to-know them quadrants.
Best of luck to you, please do what makes you happy.
I wouldn’t wear it if I was in your case. I don’t think kilts have a lot of cultural value even to Scots, and I get the impression that you’re a Scot by birth only.
I have no problem with men in kilts and may get one myself one day, they’re pretty expensive. However like most menswear they look better on women than men.
Maybe good for a desert…but it looks to my New England-centric eyes like a good way to get a tick bite and possibly Lyme Disease.
Nope. Pants if I’m saving the world.
Well, you can rent them in Scotland much like you’d rent a tuxedo. You even get to pick your clan tartan if you have one. I don’t know if that really counts as cultural value, but there’s enough demand for formal kilts to support carrying them in formalwear stores.
