Where did you get that impression? Because it is certainly not true at all.
[QUOTE=OneCentStamp]
No idea whether or not he was a heroin addict, but her blogs and public profile while she was with him seemed like nothing more than the ravings of a rapidly cycling bipolar person*. She was clearly not in a good place.

Again, I don’t know where you’re getting that. She was doing well and was happy at the end.
It’s this kind of unsubstantiated stuff that starts these vicious rumors.
But she was bipolar. Sure she might have been “up” near the end, until she wasn’t. She did die of an overdose, right? And her new beau did have a criminal drug record, right? Anyway, that’s how my impression was formed.
I didn’t say or imply she deserved anything. At the time her mom said “we don’t believe it was suicide” so your absolute assertion that it was not is a little misplaced.
Not sure really. Maybe I just put it together. Aging model with multiple arrests who looks like Iggy Pop. Did you hang out with him and form a different opinion?
Well, the people picking on Opal in this thread are certainly, without exception, assholes. Not that you need to pick on Opal’s memory to be an asshole. I’m a asshole and I haven’t said anything unkind about Opal. I like to think of myself as a higher grade of asshole than the Opal haters, who appear to all be spreaders of false gossip. Buncha assholes.
Not quite everything you have posted in this thread is false. As an example:
There is no reason to believe she died of an overdose or that her boyfriend had a criminal record. Do you just make this shit up and call it “impressionism?”
I don’t think anyone’s saying that Opal “deserved to die”. But she definetly had her issues. I don’t think that would be news to anyone here. Its unfortunate, but it’s true.
He had a criminal record, it’s quite visible online. Her mom said “we don’t believe it was suicide”, which only gets said for overdoses or auto erotic asphyxiation. So maybe shut up when you don’t know jackshit? Just kidding. Please keep making a fool of yourself.
How about you speculate from zero evidence and don’t know jackshit? Nobody here wants to know your beef with the deceased. Your insinuation that her death was suicide, overdose or caused by her boyfriend is none of your fucking business, nor anyone else’s who is posting around here. How about all of you just shut the fuck up so that you are not constantly reminding people what classless, despicable and disgusting assholes you are?
I’m not speculating from zero evidence and I don’t have any beef with Opalcat. Not sure the BBQ Pit is the forum for you. Seems like the freedom to call people names triggers something deeply stupid inside you. Food for thought.
Is it really “besmirching the reputation” of someone if you’re saying the same things about them dead as were said while they were alive?
Your power to affect my reputation doesn’t change if I die. Quite the contrary, really. Once someone dies, many people switch over into hagiographic mode.
But it’s interesting to hear that if Bill Cosby died tomorrow, you’d never say anything bad about him again.
That really isn’t how manners work. There’s a point when someone’s making an argument about how other people should be politer and more respectful where they can reasonably point out where the guilty parties are erring, but going with “how about all of you just shut the fuck up so that you are not constantly reminding people what classless, despicable and disgusting assholes you are?” tends to undermine the underlying theme. It also tends to make appeals to civilised society ring a little hollow.
I suppose this makes me an asshole, and a ghoul to boot, but I admit to a certain amount of morbid curiosity regarding how Opal died. If it was not a drug overdose, either accidental or deliberate, then what the heck was it? For all I know a drunk driver crashed into her while she was out for a peaceful stroll.
The weird part is just that no one close enough to Opal to know what caused her death will tell us. It’s no wonder speculation sets in.
