Katherine was a friend, not just to me but to many others, here and elsewhere. She had her problems, none of which affect any of us today. In my poorly-respected opinion we should let this discussion end and let her rest.
What was this all about? (from someone responding in a thread of Opalcat’s, presumedly alluding to Opalcat -the thread where Opalcat was pissed off that people found and disseminated graphic photos of her from her website)

What it sounds like to me:
Way back in the day, 2001 or so, Shayna put together something called the SDMB People Pages. Basically a photo album of pics of SDMB member submitted by members, similar to what Arnold did recently before he disappeared.
At some point, the People Pages became corrupted. Sounds like it she thinks it was intentional.

Basically, Shayna, with the help of Techchick started a photopage back in the early days of the Dope. She did a lot of work on it – collected a whole bunch of pictures, typed out all of the coding by hand (no editor), paid for it all as well. She did a fantastic job, and it was really popular.
Well, Opal was jealous apparently because SHE wanted to start a page on the dope or something like that, or her page wasn’t as popular as Shayna’s. (Some stupid middle-school type bullshit). And as a lot of people are aware, Techchick had a major drinking problem. (She’s been banned for ages, so I think it’s safe to point that out). And somehow Opal was either talking to her on the phone, or chatting online with her when Techchick was hammered, and she managed to convince Techchick to give her the password to Shayna’s page.
And then went in and proceded to delete every single file. Shayna admitted it was partly her fault for not having a back-up, but this was back before portable hard-drives and flashdrives were popular. (At least beyond geeks) Either way, it was an extremely malicious and hateful thing for Opal to do, and she never once acknowledged it, or apologized.
While it sounds like Shayna was carrying a grudge there, I think she was trying to point out to Opal, hey – might want to own up to your own past deeds?
Now, am I saying that Opal was a viscious bitch who deserved to die? No. But was she a wonderful caring person who was “universally loved”? No. There are people out there who have reason not to like her. I personally didn’t have any seriously strong feelings about her, at least that I can recall off the top of my head. I only met her once at a Dopefest, and she seemed nice enough. But she definitely loved to cause drama. That’s just a fact.
I’m sorry she died. But that doesn’t mean you have to automatically beatify her.
Besides, nobody’s “universally loved”. Except maybe Mister Rogers.
