Who did the original of this song? Everyone seems to know the Byrds’ verion. But, the Byrds’ version is so small. Dylan’s version has so many extra verses. Does Dylan get the credit? - Jinx
Yep, it’s a Bob Dylan song, one of well over a dozen Dylan songs that The Byrds performed.
np Bob Dylan - Girl From The North Country
Great Dylan lyrics!
“To dance beneath the diamond sky
with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea
circled by the circus sands
with all memory and fate
driven deep beneath the waves
Let’s forget about today until tomorrow”
I hate hearing the shortened versions of this song. They leave out the best stuff. True Hibbings opaqueness!
The line “…these ancient empty streets too dead for dreaming” really resonated when I went to college in Williamsburg, VA. I’m not being facetious. I found it very depressing to live there.
What a great song.
Bob also wrote The Watchtower, which is all-too-often assumed to have originated with Hendrix.
And don’t forget The Mighty Quin
which is associated with Manfred Mann.
“All Along the Watchtower”
and
“Quinn the Eskimo”
to be exact.
anybody else ever think that “Shelter from the storm” was sung by Gimli in tribute to Galadriel?
