I can't find the most well known version of Bob Dylan's cover of 'Knockin on heavens door'

Does anyone know what version I’m talking about? Slow and twangy.

I…Can’t…use…them…anymore.

All that stuff. All I find is other versions. Does anyone know where I can see a copy of his most played version online?

It’s not a cover.

From Dylan’s album “Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid” soundtrack.

Written by Bob.
mmm

ETA: Available on Spotify

You mean this one?

Of course, Dylan wrote it so it’s not a cover.

Its a Dylan original. I was thinking it was a cover of a 60s song. I must have been confusing it with something else.

Were you thinking of Corrine, Corrina?

The Grateful Dead did a twangy version.

That’s not the original. It’s not even Bob. That track *is *a cover.

Try this one instead.

Unfortunately I can’t access that link.

The one I linked to sounds pretty much identical to the version on the movie soundtrack, at least to me. (Starts at 0:38) If the person in the version I linked to isn’t Dylan, he’s doing a very good job of mimicking him. Who is it if it’s not Dylan? Or did Dylan not sing the version used on the soundtrack?

Most of the videos on line do seem to be covers, even ones that say “Original,” but they are obviously by other artists.

Thank you. To me that has always been the real version, I have no idea why it is so hard to find.

LOL. reading the comments it is full of people just like me. ‘I’m sick of all the wrong versions and cover versions. Finally the real version’.

Is it different from the soundtrack version I linked to?

No, this is a different version. The version I wanted is 2:30 long, this one is 3:26. Plus the voice is different.

Reading the comments from the video NeonMadman posted, the preferred version was pretty hard to find on youtube.

Well that raises another mystery. Who is singing it on the cut I linked to? I can’t seem to find any information on “Post Productions Perform A Tribute to Bob Dylan,” which appears to be on the album cover. It sounds like it’s not just a cover, but an attempt to mimic the original almost exactly.

Given that I wouldn’t expect it to be anyone you’d know. I can’t read the motive in this besides some vanity project.

What would be the point of a vanity project where the singer is unidentified? :dubious:

It doesn’t seem to be a various artists tribute, and it isn’t distinct enough to be a covers record by any artist I can think of. I’m going to say that they want to see who will watch it and think it’s Dylan. That’s another kind of vanity.

Or say “Hey great job man.” You must’ve seen a few youtube citizens covering songs for the glory.

But if not those two things, what would you say the point of it is?

Whatever it is, it doesn’t seem to be working very well. On the Post Productions channel, some of the comments are complimentary but a lot are telling him to go screw himself.

Most of the other covers don’t sound as close as Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.

Yeah you don’t get to choose what commenters say. And I notice a lot of them have comments disabled.

But music is a narcissistic enterprise, and people love the sound of themselves. Beyond that this may have no explanation.

Warren Zevon?

When I first heard the intro to this, I thought it was going to be a slow version of Freebird.

Knocking On Heaven’s Door and Forever Young are two songs that each remind me of the other.

Whatever that means.
