Good catch. I had tried to go back and edit “his” to “the” (referring to the presidency as per Revenant’s post), but when I hit submit the time had expired.
The POTUS cutting certain reporters dead would be dickish but it would not be “quashing free speech.”
You’re missing the point. If Revenant is right and that he, as President, would punish the Tennessee GOP in any way—particulalry in a way that uses the power of his office to grant and withhold goodies—for exercising their free speech, that qualifies as performance art for me. I’d really love to see it. Too bad he’s not going to be President and this whole thing is moot, though.
Not at all. But it can come back to haunt you. See below.
Voiceover: Megellan01 compares Michelle Obama to… a dog.
[picture of Magellan’s angry face]
Voiceover: He said, “she’s been on a shorter leash”. He later explained that he was speaking metaphorically. Do you want your president reciting poetry or speaking plainly?
[picture of Magellan with his fist raised]
Voiceover: Does Magellan01 hate all women, or only Michelle Obama?
[picture of a happy and loving Obama family]
Voiceover: You can do your part to restore family values in the White House and get rid of the Bush-McCain smear machine once and for all. Vote for Barack Obama in November. We can change things.
[50,000 smiling people at Obama rally]
“Yes we can!”
Even if he did it as delivering on the threat cited in the OP? I think it certainly would be. And I don’t even think he’d actually do it. It’s just bluster. Bluster that, in this case, is uncharacteristically dumb.
Look, you know it’s not gonna be McCain. Who does that leave?
Nicely done. Surely you’ll forgive the edits (bold), as I think they help with accuracy.
The Great Tom Tancredo, of course.
How about 75,000?
To quote Travis Bickle. Some day a rain will come.
The rain is coming alright and hopefully it will wash these hateful neo-con fucks out of the political scene for good.
He might forgive but I don’t think the mods will. That’s against the rules don’t ya know.
What, even in the Pit?!
I’m aware of the rule, but thought I’d be okay if I was overt and direct about it. My guess is that Liberal will not take offense. If I am wrong about either him or the mods, my sincere apologies. But I’d be surprised if it’s a problem for either/any of them.
I think so. And I think the reasoning is the same as it is for other fora, that you don’t want a poster misquoted. I don’t think that is a problem with what I did. Perhaps I could have used neon, though.
Attributed quotes cannot be altered in this manner, magellan01. As yojimbo pointed out, this is a board-wide rule. Please do not do this again.
Maybe you will get to see it. You seem to have the impression there would be something unusual about that. There will not be. Riding on Air Force One is a privilege, not a right. It is no “punishment” to not be invited aboard, just like it’s no punishment not to be invited for dinner. it’s not political, it’s personal. Don’t insult the boss’s wife and then expect to be invited onto his yacht.
Even if I say, “Hey, look, I’m going to change some of what you said for effect and put in in bold so you can see what I’ve changed.” Even that’s not allowed. What’s the rationale. I’ll abide be the rule in the future, but can you please explain the thinking behind why what I did specifically would be problematic?
Thanks.
I think the OP might actually be Bugs Bunny.
I get your point, but it’s not a good analogy. The boss doesn’t swear an oath to protect someone’s right to free speech. You’re missing the humor/irony/hypocrisy in it. It’s comedy gold I tell ya.
A shot over the bow? Of course, you realize, this means war!!!
