I take exception to including Hurricane Ditka in with the likes of Okrahoma. At least HD is intelligent and capable of adult dialogue. If there were more conservatives here who were like him, this board would be better off.

Exactly. Both of them admit they are here just to piss off liberals, rather than actually engage honestly. While other conservative posters engage in this a little bit at times, it’s at least in a “friendly rivalry” context.

Yes, it does mean it’s really hard to get an actual Trump supporter on this board, but that’s not surprising, as he ran entirely on being able to piss people off, so of course his follwers are those types of people.
I went through and put any of the people talking about how happy they were that liberals were upset about Trump on ignore back in November, and I haven’t felt I missed anything yet.

I agree. HD is fine by me. I disagree with him on many points, politically, but he strikes me as a sensible fellow, and I never get the sense he is trolling or just trying to piss people off for no reason, despite what posters above have said. And, come on, he’s got Ditka in his screen name (see my location.)

I basically agree. HD seems mostly fair to me. It does seem like some people hate posters on this board just by nature of them being conservative, not because of anything they actually did.
It’s probably not easy to be a conservative on these boards because you often get called out for trolling just for stating your opinion. But it doesn’t help that some of the conservatives here behave like caricatures full of pointless snark rather than three dimensional human beings. Okrahoma veers this way. But then there are lefties that behave the same way.
Back when I was on social media, I intentionally joined a couple of conservative FB groups, particularly some news groups that had pretty nuanced articles (I believe one was called The American Conservative.) I liked reading those, the problem is the comments sections were filled with people just spewing vitriol and garbage, totally abandoning all pretense of critical thinking. I have found it very difficult, even when actively trying, to find conservatives who don’t relate to liberals in this way. I know that intelligent conservatives are out there, but they are not currently dominating the narrative (or the internet.)
I just lose patience really fast for intellectual laziness. Anytime you start generalizing about liberals or conservatives in bad faith, I lose respect.
So? He’s also reasonable when you talk to him and willing to admit when he’s wrong. He offers reasonable positions on topics, even if I don’t necessarily agree with them. He shows an ability to care about issues, and will even switch to a liberal position on some of them.
He’s nothing like all these pro-Trump conservatives who admit they enjoy pissing of liberals for fun. Those are the shitty people that we don’t need on this board. Bad predictions are perfectly fine as long as you don’t pretend you were right.
I actually would defend adaher over Bricker, as at least the former doesn’t use disingenuous arguing tactics. He’s conservative. He’s wrong a lot. But he’s at least decent.
