Hey pizzabrat: eat shit you antagonizing horsefucker

She’s the littlest one?

Exactly. It is neither a joke nor funny but instead is a gross and racist statement (and please spare us the “but all my black friends say it too”).

However, in the context of that particular thread, I suppose its use is marginally acceptable. Impolite and ill-advised, but acceptable.

For fuck’s sake it is NOT racist.

Wow. Once again I’m simply amazed how touchy people on this board can get.

Someone sees a quiant, rolleyes phrase and immediately thinks it’s an act of The Devil!

Cisco is right on the money here. Folks need to chill.

Same here. The “Huxtable” reference is racist, in my opinion.

Any black dopers have an opinion on this???

Sorry, folks, but offensive does not equal racist.

Personally, I had never heard this…uh…joke (?) before. I had to take a minute to figure it out actually. It is gross. It really isn’t funny. I can see how people would take it the wrong way.

I’m a big idiot, so you’ll have to explain the difference to me in this case. It sounds like a racist sentiment to me.

To give Cisco the benefit of the doubt, it could be a racist sentiment expressed ignorantly or unintentionally. That, however, doesn’t make it less offensive.

Pizzabrat, please continue to antagonize. Far too many people are far too willing these days to live in complete denial of racism as it presently exists.

This is the dumbest thread I’ve seen in some time. It’s not racist, so lighten the hell up. You kneejerking fools will be the death of society.

Not touchy really, just opinionated. I didn’t take the time to check out the context of Cisco’s use of the statement, just the statement itself. And the statement by itself sounds racist. Cisco may very well have been right on the money if the money was “use a distasteful statement that hints racism but is very low on the hate scale”

I think it’s too damn stupid and childish to actually be “hateful.”

This is like saying “There’s a skeeter on my peter …” is obviously far too adult in context for school kids to be singing.

Yes it is too damn stupid to be hateful. That’s why I said its low on the scale of hateful things that are usually racist.
If he had said the big “N” word in place of Rudy Huxtable it would have been very racist and high on the hate scale.

Can you follow that?
So why do I think its racist? I watched a lot of the Cosby shows and I don’t recall any of the sub-plots about Rudy being a swimmer or swimming at all. So why is the cute little girl associated with a brown turd?

Hold on for a sec while I pull out my handy dandy Is This Racist? check list.

This statement asserts one race is superior/inferior to another.
This statement contains hatred or strong dislike of another race, religion or culture.
This statement makes distinctions on the basis of race or religion with regards to individual merit.

Nope, nope and nope.

While this may be true, confusing racism with offense doesn’t help matters at all.

Well, people can certainly disagree, but in my opinion metaphorically referring to a black person as a piece of shit does imply some amount of hatred or strong dislike. So I might be inclined to check off number two on your list. Does it have to be all three to be considered racist?

This statement asserts one race is superior/inferior to another.
* A black person is equated to a piece of shit*

This statement contains hatred or strong dislike of another race, religion or culture.
*Rudy Huxtable, a black person, is equated with a piece of shit *

This statement makes distinctions on the basis of race or religion with regards to individual merit.
*A black person is equated with a piece of shit *

That’s funny. I seem to come up with yep, yep, and yep.

Equating a person with brown skin, because that’s basically what the euphemism is doing, to a piece of poop–which also happens to be brown, well in most cases, at least-- is not the same as asserting black people are inferior to anyone, expressing hatred for black people or make a distinction on the basis race or religion.

The euphemism would work–and be equally tasteless–with anyone with brown skin–people of Latin descent, Middle Easteners, Inuits, George Hamilton, etc. And after a dinner of spinach, you could say you’re going to drop Oscar the Grouch off at the pool.

Who thinks what’s an act of the Devil, the person who started an entire pit thread about it? Did you read the original thread? One person mildly complained about it’s inappropriateness, and I agreed with snarky retorts based on the two posters previous posts. There was decidedly no “big deal” made about it.

So…basically he’s not allowed to say anything about anything? IMO, the euphamism was out of line, so we’re even. Besides, I wouldn’t have even said anything if I weren’t given an easy set-up buy someone else complaining first.

Cause she was an obnoxious little shit.

Much like dropping Stephanie Tanner off at the pool. (Another obnoxious little shit on a sitcom.)

I never really thought her being black had anything to do with the fact that she was an obnoxious little shit. shrug

No fucking way! Rudy wasn’t an obnoxious little shit! Olivia, on the other hand…

Olivia?

Musta been after I stopped watching the show.

Another kid I’d drop off at the pool: DJ Conner from the Roseanne show.
