As a Bostonian, I have to say that at least I know I’m never going to be dumb enough to take one of these sorts of bets. I think our sports teams exist to cause us agony and despair.
This does not, of course, mean I’m any less confident that the Sox will win it all next year, just that I wouldn’t actually put money or my personal dignity on the line for them.
Let’s see how much Montfort has gone out of his way to be rid of Satan’s sig. 1205 posts in the 432 days since registering, for an average of 2.789 posts per day. 100 posts between 9:15 PM on 10/29 and 11:59 PM on 10/31, for an average of 47.291 posts per day. So you upped your rate by a factor of about 17 to get your humiliation over with as quickly as possible.
I suppose to be fair to Montfort, I shouldn’t use that average, though. From his 1000th post on 10/22 at 4:38 PM until he started posting like monkey on speed on 10/29 at 9:15 PM, he had 102 posts, for an average of 14.233 posts per day. So he really only increased his rate of posting by a factor of 3.323. However, I’m leaning towards 47 posts per day counting as post [count] padding.
I knew I would have my posting ratio called upon. Yes, I registered in the summer of 1999, but I took a nice long extended break from the board due to work from about October 1999 - June 2000. I never was a really active poster until about August or so, when that silly “list” thread with iampunha started. I think I hit 500 in August, right before the Norfolk Dopefest, and then I hit 1000 a week or so ago.
Yes, the “Ask the guy who…” thread was vain, but it was fun. Don’t blame me for padding my post count in it, though, blame those who asked me questions!
The other two threads I mentioned were heated debates/flamefests (take yer pick) that I would’ve been involved in anyway without the bet. Another note: it’s been a very quiet week so far for me at work, so I have a lot of time to spend on the board. I make no apologies for that.
I also don’t regret making the bet in the first place. It was stupid, I know, but I don’t regret it. Perhaps, Satan, we should’ve wagered on last week’s Flyers/Rangers game, or even last night’s Sixers/Knicks game?
Okay, I’ll offer this now: In July 2001, or whenever the Phillies play the Yankees in interleague play in 2001, the Phillies will win at least two out of the three games in the series. And, we’ll make the same bet, but for ten days, not 100 posts. You game?
