i’ve got a friend who in turn has a band he says he wants to rename “Tequila Mockingbird”. he says, that;
“to intelligent people it’s a knowing wink, to stupid people, it’s a bird and a drink”
and i’m currently falling into the avian beverage category.
so, the way i figure it, the name Tequila Mockingbird must be pretty rare and probably derived from the same source. so, if you don’t mind, please could you tell me why you are called tequila mockingbird? whats it derived from or inspired by?
alternatively, if tequila mockingbird wants to be secretive or just plain doesn’t read this thread, does anyone else know where the name could be derived from?
any help would be much appreciated, and would also make me look clever…so please allow the wisdom to flow forth.
“Tequila Mockingbird” <-> “To Kill A Mockingbird”
It’s a pun on the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
Haj
hell, that was fast, an answer in less than 60 seconds.
i just wish the answer wasn’t so obvious. boy, do i feel dumb now. i really need help looking intelligent.
thanks, guys. much obliged.
It’s derived from “To Kill a Mockingbird”, the classic piece of literature by Harper Lee. The title is from an old saying “it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird”, implying they sing prettily and do no harm.
Just saw this thread and see the question’s already been answered. That’s what I get for watching a movie rather than hovering over my keyboard all day.
I picked the name because I love to read, like tequila and used to work as a bartender. It just worked for me on a couple different levels. I couldn’t carry a tune even if were in a bucket, though.
“Get Smart” episode 4.16, January 18, 1969
Tequila Mockingbird
(OK, this is the whole fourth season, but it’s on this page.)
I beg to differ. I grew up in Arlington, VA. and such a beast sang outside of our house, every night in the summer(when you had to have your windows open. Air conditioning hadn’t been invented yet). He would run through his repertoire every 5 minutes or so. I used to get up around 2 a.m. and shoot him(with a garden hose). Do no harm, indeed…::grumble::
It’s also a bar in Chicago and I can only imagine other cities as well. There’s only so many clever ideas to go around, it seems
I think I’ve seen that Get Smart episode. I beleive the Tequila Mockingbird was a spoof of The Maltese Falcon.
