Hey! We're in Paris!

Marais. Too-big apartment for two-weeks. Wife and dog.

Eating, will be eating. Charcuterie heaven. Have kitchen.

Also smoking Cubans, as myself meets my hypocritical self.

First post away from home to SD…

Anyone I should say hi to?
Avec amour,
Leo

What do they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese over there?

If you look East today, wave.

Howdy! Did any of the posts in your dog food thread help?

If you’re in the Marais, you’re right near some of the old Jewish delis, mostly established right after WW2. See how they compare to the ones in the U.S. . . . and enjoy!

And see if they have any pastrami. Apparently there’s some kind of shortage.

Find your way to the pastry shop Maison Georges Larnicol, and try their “kouignettes.” They are honestly better than sex.

Cubans!

Dammit, I was just in Belgium and the Netherlands last week and I forgot to buy any cigars!

Good to know you’re having more fun than me! Enjoy!

Could you fax me a baguette?

Yes, say “Hi” to Pierre c vu play. All of them.

I shall be awaiting my postcard.

Wine, cheese and a baguette enjoyed while staring at the Eiffel Tower sitting on a grass in some park. My seminal Paris tourist moment. It was inexpensive, too!

Maybe take some day trips on a train. Beautiful scenery.

Have fun!!

Hi guys. Rather than quote, I’ll just fire away.
Royale Cheese: avec Cheddar fondue.
Royals Bacon: avec Cheddar fondue et Bacon. (“Bacon” in English.)

Maison George Larnicol, and their mini Kugi things (which, btw, you can get in NYC near Union Square) is one block away. Five blocks aways is a charcuterie which won, and prominently says so, the Grand Prix d’Or 2014 in head cheese. Say no more.

I’ve also ordered two different preparations of French chitlins at two different places. Saucisson with muscadet, one with fig, one of with Camembert, all sort of the same; saucisson of pork and donkey, but not so good. I’ll look for steak tartare from horse, high I had once here 20 years ago and remember it was good. (I’ve had horse steak also; it’s sort of sweeter.)

Raw cheese amazing. Raw creme fraiche (you know, fraiche). Two rillon and two black pudding also in fridge. Butter at 82-86% fat. Thank you Jesus! (Saw, slept through part of vocal and organ convert at Notre Dame. Missed by one day, the first night here when I stayed home watching Netflix, the Bolshoi doing Swan Lake, which I fucking missed earlier in NYC.

Can’t afford the blowout haute-haute restaurants, will seek out some on a few foodie pages (in English) that get talked about. Will make pilgrimage to Dehillerin copperware, Gilles Verot charcuterie, cookbook store. Fauchon.

You can get gas on the sidewalk of a perfectly upscale boulevard. Now that’s weird.

True sole, turbot (!), not for millionaires, like in US. Raw foie gras $26 lb, NYC $60. Wine, yesterday bought a 1° Cru Burgundy for $30. Unbelievable. (The bargain; the wine was kind of lightweight, but Jesus it’s a Burgundy. She gave me wine when I said I wanted some to reduce in cooking. Had my first Chambertin.

Spent $1000 on eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses for the two of us. Long story, still hurts…

Purina, Science Diet, all here. Wife schlepped the food after all–and “we had more than 15 lbs of weight we were allowed!”

Dog had shits two days before we left just to keep things interesting. He calmed down, is in a good mood, and is eating his air-expressed food, and now hasn’t taken a healthy dump in almost three days. So, I gather from my wife’s Googling and insistence that we go to a vet–or, not so far, Lourdes, if necessary–pumpkin purée or Metamucil. Pumpkin is so weird–I’ve never had a constipated dog before, but I always give pumpkin mush when he’s got the shits. Hmm.

I’d like to fill those 35 lbs with Montecristo #2s. Top-line cigars smoother than Dominican, Nicaraguan. Smooth like Davidoff, but far more complex flavor. Cohiba robusto ($25) smidgen-y between Padron 1926, closer to Family Reserve, ($35), so, excellent. The Behike sold out. Fucking Castro. My high sounding ethical intent to boycott–I brought over about 15–lasted all of 3 hours on day 1.

Pictures to come.

Love to all.
