Hey! You! Post Here If You Plan to Attend ChiDope in May 2003.

Hmmm… Don’t recall any obvious stairs or other barriers, but I admit that I wasn’t specifically looking at the place with that issue in mind. When I’m there on Thursday, I’ll check into it.

Hey, Hamlet you big dope, I omitted you because you’re CONFIRMED for attendance. Does it always have to be about YOU?

Of course, it may help if I read the ENTIRE POST, especially the

part.

I think the thing in my eye was my foot. I missed my mouth.

Put me down as “interested” at this point.

Put mrs beagledave down as frightened.

I think she’s gotcha covered, Hamlet.

Big baby.

Sheesh… it takes me 30 seconds to respond after each of two posts hit my screen, and I get beaten both times.

Tough crowd.

Okay, I’m confirming. Lord willing I won’t have to relocate for work or anything before hand (although getting employed would be awful nice at this point.) Couple of questions, though-

  1. Smoking or nonsmoking?

  2. Being one who dreads driving into the city for -just- this reason, what’s the parking situation look like out there?

Parking’s dicey sometimes, I won’t lie, but it’s never too bad. You can usually find a spot within a couple-three blocks. How far away do you live? Is taking public transportation possible?

Aw, Hamlet, you know I’m just funnin’ ya, baby!

Agree with Gundy on parking. Actually, she might be being a little pessimistic. You probably won’t get a spot right outside the front door, but this isn’t Lincoln Park. Odds are you’ll find something within a block or so.

As for smoking, it’s allowed, but there wasn’t much smoke last Friday. (and I would have noticed.) That said, there are a fair number of smoking dopers, so I would expect some smoke in our room.

As far as the smoking issue’s concerned, wouldn’t it be okay for people to move to the outer bar if they wanted to smoke, and keep the par-tay room as smoke-free as possible so everyone’s happy?

I can’t believe I put High Life and Spam in the same post. :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you concerned about insulting Spam or High Life?
As for the smoke issue, I suppose that’s up to us to decide. I’ll stay neutral, at least for the time being. Comments?
Okay, I’m leaving for a while. (playing hooky this afternoon)
I’ll be interested in seeing where this thread goes today.

Please excuse if there are any typos in this post, it’s very difficult for me to type with these tears wellign in my eyes…

I guess it’s OK, Gundy, although it is an ancient tradition in my tribe for the “funner” to buy lots and lots of beer for the “funnee”. That and cash. Oh, wait, and back massages, definitely an old tradition of back massages, yessiree. And chocolate. Lots of chocolate. Did I mention cash? Yes, lots of cash. And other stuff I haven’t mentioned. I’ll have to check with the tribal elders, but I’m sure it will involve more alcohol, and possibly tickets to a Sox game. I’ll check and get back to you.

I’m voting for as little smoke as possible in the back room, please. Wouldn’t want anyone to have to haul me off to the E.R. for a fun evening with a nebulizer. (Not a likely scenario, but conceivable.)

Make sure you check with the elders about what happens when the “funnee” brings it all upon himself due to poor reading skills. Maybe in that case it’s carob, not chocolate – but the Sox tickets seem about right, even in that case.

Eva Luna, count me in with thinking it’s not asking too much to keep smoking in the regular bar area. We can close the doors to the back room to keep it as smoke-free as possible.

Bad news, kids. I mentioned earlier that I’ve been playing telephone tag with the owner of the bar. He just called me back. The only night in May that’s not free is (you guessed it) the tenth. He agreed to hold it for someone else earlier today.

It hasn’t been firmly booked yet, and the competition hasn’t actually seen the room (that’ll be tonight), but the owner seemed fairly sure that he’ll book it. He’ll let me know what happens.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Aw, man! ::kicks dirt::

Now what?

What about the restaurant place mentioned above? Do they have a part that they might be amendable to reserving, if we can guarantee a certain level of business?

It’s pretty small, Eva Luna, and I don’t think they have a private room.
