I’m afraid I must make like Peter North, and pull out.
Checking in with a search committee status report. Black Rock is definitely off the table. In the light of this, despite the pathetically early bailout of one of the committee members (okay, she had a reason, but still… ), we checked out 5 additional places, a number that will likely increase once accomodation/transportation coordinatorJane D’oh checks in.
We’ve got a few possibilities. Windy City is a bare bones, VFW hall ambiance choice. Price pending. 4300 W. Irving Park. Not much to excite. Bartender does have some decent tattoos, though, and she appears friendly.
A nomination of the Admiral Theater at this point failed for want of a second. The remaining vestiges of my once-intact chivalrous nature prevent me from revealing which committee member made this surprising suggestion.
O’Donovan’s (a few blocks east on Irving) has a decent party room, but it’s booked for 5/10. Too bad.
The Palace (formerly the Great Beer Palace) has closed.
Bransfields’ new location (4300 Lincoln) has possibilities. Party room with potential under construction. Price pending. Good beer selection.
Jury’s has a beer garden that will likely be open on 5/10, but no indoor party room. Great Chicago bar. Regretably, the two committee members surviving (even the one distracted by the Marquette NCAA victory) conclude that Chicago weather on 5/10 is not reliable enough to make this choice.
Hamlet (once he has recovered from his NCAA euphoria) will be checking into the Edison Park Alumni Club (formerly the Snuggery), which appears to have some decent package prices.
Celtic Crossing is a geat improvement on its predecessor bar, but has access and potential pricing problems. I’m checking this out further.
Bottom line is that we probably can get a decent place with good package pricing, but there are logistical and legal reasons why no Doper event has ever gone this route. We’re working on solving these problems.
Hey. I am still interested and have just started a new job so may have the cash to go. I have to ask for the time off and will let ally’all know if i can make it asap. Cheers.
No will share list for Ruby, right-o. No need to call the hotel. I will give them names. I am going to hold off on that for another week or so, just because I expect a lot of changes in the next few weeks. No need to worry, though, if you’re on the list, you’ll have a room. I may need mailing addresses later, but for now I have all I need.
I’m going to try to check this place out tomorrow evening.
Isn’t this Moretti’s, not Alumni Club? I know they’re owned by the same people though.
Awwww. And I wanted my plov with extra eyeballs.
That seriously made me laugh out loud.
Okay, Eva, I see where the “maniac” part comes in.
I’ve checked in like three times, dammit. When will you people be satisfied? Will nothing I say make you happy? I WILL BE THERE.
</melodrama>
Haven’t been there in years. May have changed names again.
As for Bransfield’s, you’ll need to ask to see the room. Let the bartender know that the owner showed it to us last night, and said renovations should be done by 5/10.
More beer for me!
Seriously though, darn.
Oh, by the way, barring anything horrible, I will be there.
I am still iffy as to whether or not I will be able to attend. I don’t have a job yet and funds are running low… If I could carpool and share a place to stay (hotel is ok, but is there floorspace?). I will only be 19 and 14 days away from my twentieh birthday so would there be nondrinking involved activities? I don’t mind being around people that are, but I’d like to participate in fun stuffs too… If anyone can help me out, please email or let me know in chat… Thanks all
Unfortunately, Verrain and I won’t be able to make it this year. We’ll be with y’all in spirit, though.
Explain, please. In e-mail if you must. Thank you very much.
::bump::
Any developments on the location issue, either for Friday night or Saturday night?
I don’t think we were planning anything for Friday night for the whole – at least, I’m not. I figured Friday would be a good time for splinter groups to do their own thing, thus my offer to host a non-bar event on Friday.
As far as Saturday goes…we’re still working on it. Sadly, Black Rock is a no-go for sure, though.
Hey, I’ve been wanting to go to Chicago. It will give me a chance to fly the ol’ Cessna on a long cross-country. And I’ll finally be able to try out Meigs Field.
Not anymore.
Do you seriously think that if you offer to host something, you will have significantly less than the entire ChiDope crowd show up?
Given porcupine’s response…yes.
I’m insulted! Are you trying to say there are those who might be able to resist my offer of plov, alcohol possibilities nonwithstanding?
