HG Nelson & Rampaging Roy Slaven

A vox pop on a side show at the Olympic Games.

Our domestic broadcaster of the Games, is using Rampaging Roy Slaven and HG Nelson (aka John Doyle and Greg Havers) as front man of the end-of-day wrap up called “The Dream”

I understand that NBC have been picking up some of their stuff ( so maybe 0.00001pc of Americans have watched them in action  ), pondering the great questions of life and sport.

One of their achievements is hi-jacking the official Games mascots with their own, called Fatso, the fat-arsed Wombat.

Now I’ve been brought up on this stuff and their style is deeply ingrained in my funny bone. My interest would be in the reaction of American viewers (or, of course, any other nationalities for that matter)to something a bit different to the usual offerings.

I’d like to know which bits of it they’re showing in America. I mean, Roy and H.G. are very Australian, and I think a lot of their humour would have most of the rest of the world going “huh?”

That said, I think “The Dream” is the best part of the Olympics coverage here in Australia. It’s the only time channel seven shows sports like fencing, synchronised swimming, and of course Greco-Roman wrestling. I think I’ll always remember these Olympics for the footage of one Greco-Roman wrestler mounting another one from behind in slow motion, while Barry White sings in the background.
