Chris Murphy. Obama’s “red line” policy on Syria cannot reasonably be seen by any neutral observer as having been successful.

Wrong again, my friend. It was meticulously planned for months by the military under the Obama administration, under some of the most respected generals there was, and was already approved by the unimpeachable Secretary of Defense James Mattis when Trump decided to sign off on it. There was no display of “impatience” in Trump’s authorization of the raid, to say there was is just a falsehood. It’s not like he just got up one morning from the Oval Office, drank a beer, and decided he was going to approve a very serious raid in Yemen on al-Qaeda operatives for fun; the raid was one that was, again, months-long planned.

Report on the Yemen raid just came out a few hours ago.

The military has conducted several investigations and reviews into the operation per standard operating procedure anytime there are civilian casualties, lost aircraft or the death of US service members.
The only investigation that is still ongoing is the examination of the loss of the Osprey.
Following the after-action review, Votel told the Senate that no additional investigations were warranted.
“I am looking for indicators of incompetence, poor decision-making or bad judgment throughout all of this,” Votel told the committee. “I was satisfied that none of those indicators that I identified to you were present.”
As a result, he said: “I made the determination that there was no need for an additional investigation into this particular operation.”

Looks like Obama’s people did their job well.

Did I say they didn’t? No, in fact I specifically used the word meticulously in my post. I was trying to refute another guy’s assertion that Trump’s decision to authorize and sign off on the raid was impatient and thoughtless, given that Trump knew how long it had been planned by the previous administration, and given that James Mattis–one of the most respected statesmen out there–approved it to Trump. They knew the risks, but knew that it was a mission that was worth carrying out due to the intel on al-Qaeda and other extremist groups.

I’m not a hypocrite; I never said that Obama should have tried to overthrow Assad with regime change. I have said that I do support sending troops to battle ISIS over there, and believe that working with some Russian forces in Syria as a last resort. Doesn’t make me a neocon or a hypocrite
