He hasn’t been willing to do the same (money/mouth, that is) with the Swiftboat thing, though. Makes his commitment to do so elsewhere suspect, doesn’t it? Let’s see the money actually invested before we take this seriously either, shall we?
I don’t know if it does the opposite (IMO), but as a single data point it’s certainly not a reason to make his credibility suspect, as you rightfully noted.
Indeed it does, and that was my point way up the thread - it’s not original, but it’s really cool that he’s got 667 GE turbines on order for just one phase of his wind project. That’s a huge investment by most people’s measures ($2B) - but some would feel that because in effect he got into a pissing match with John Kerry, thus everything else he will ever do is suspect. :dubious:
It would be really nice if we could keep the Bush hatred, the swiftboat vets, and other unrelated subjects out of the more technical threads. It’s hard enough staying on track as it is when the numbers start to get a little thick without people popping in to derail the conversation.
It doesn’t matter if the idea is proposed by T. Boone Pickens or Satan himself, because we have the tools at our disposal to evaluate the proposal without resorting to ad hominem arguments.
This is really not on topic, but everyone’s functioning definition of “famous” is “people I’ve heard of.” I reckon this guy is the kind of famous person 99 in 100 haven’t heard of.
Amongst the business community, he is very famous. I would put him on the level of a Carl Icahn. Maybe that doesn’t mean he is a household name to your average person, but they probably also don’t know who Ben Bernanke is.
Exactly And outside of Oklahoma and Texas, probably more like 999 our of 1000.
Had to look him up – the guy has no profile at all outside of finance/business. Must be nice to have all that money, yet be able to walk the streets without being recognized.
Strangely, his predecessor – Alan Greenspan – is well-known. So much so that I though Greenspan was still “in office”.
T. Boone is known to people tracking events in the 80s, especially the Corporate Raider types. If you don’t know him, you are probably under the age of 35 or so I would assume (or you do not care about Wall Street games).
An oilman getting behind alternative energy sounds great. However, a car guy (Iaccoca) getting behind alternative transport hasn’t been a great investment.
