(Someone might have linked to one of the Hi, Opal, threads, I can’t tell, my computer won’t open up anymore windows right now). Anyway, Opal is Opal Cat, one of the bestknown members. She wrote a post once about how a list can’t be considered a list unless there are at least three items in it, so it’s sort of an inside joke here to post, ‘hi, Opal’ in at #3 when you’re making a list that only has two things on it. If a list is longer, sometimes people will extend the joke and stick ‘hi Opal’ in the number three spot there as well, then continue the list.

Fun place, I’m sure we’re all glad to have you. A bit of advice - try not to get too daunted by the number of inside jokes - indeed they are many and varied, but they’re harmless. If it’s any comfort, after six months here, I understand pretty much none of them. So I plod along in blissful ignorance, sniffing dandelions, and batting playfully at butterflies.
Per your questions - All the Forums are pretty cool, though they may appeal to different sensibilities (for example, many are drawn to Great Debates, because, well, they like debating stuff. I don’t especially, so I tend to avoid that particular forum).
As for who are the Nice Guys and who are the Trolls, well, they pretty much identify themselves. Best if you decide on your own, because the people I like aren’t necessarily going to be the ones YOU like. And Trolls, well, they’re pretty easy to recognize - their posts smell bad. But it doesn’t much help to point and laugh. If you see a hateful post, report it and move on. Feeding the trolls is very dangerous…

P.S.: If someone wants to post a link to the Anthology Project thread, I’ll bet that would be very helpful. I learned a lot from that. I have to go catch a train, now, and don’t have time to look for it.

It’s nice to see you’re keeping a low profile here.
All is not lost, Themis. It is not too late to apologize for being overly exhuberant. It is not too late to try to organize your thoughts better and present them in more coherant writing. I’d say step back for a few days, let people move on, and then come in and start posting to other people’s threads for a while. Establish yourself. Let people get to know you. Don’t try to “make an impression” just yet.
