Perhaps the wrong forum, but I am not sure which one to place it in. This forum won (other choices being MPSIMS and GQ).
Please…someone explain “Hi Opal” to me!
I would do a search, but truly…that would yield thousands of hits, wouldn’t it?
Thanks!

Being a “newbie” here, I was pleased and relieved to have someone point out “the teeming millions” area…but, alas, my linkage ability is poor. Could someone help link so other newbies can “catch up” with some of “the best and worst of” SDMD?
thanks.
That is the message board run by “Hi Opal”'s namesake, but I don’t it’ll be much help with the phrase in question. Welcome to the boards.
yes, thanks gang…I joined and have perused many times… look at Jokes and jokes explained and just enjoy the site!
The “Hi Opal!” is old and tired and needs to die with dignity.
Jean Grey, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
(Except about the “dignity” part.)
The “Hi Opal!” joke is one of the things that makes this board distinct from others and should be respected and maintained.
As I posted once on Opal’s board, “Hi, Opal” looks funny without a (3.) in front of it.
Bob
I thought intelligent discourse was one of the things that made this board distinct. That and, you know, that Cecil guy.
I agree with Jean Grey .
There are various reasons why no one should use this phrase anymore:
It’s old
It serves no purpose
(Please note, there’s no number three.)
My grandmother’s old, too, and she doesn’t really serve much of a purpose, except acting crazy and having asthma.
But I still send her a Christmas card every year.

This is something which should have been retired, oh, five years ago or so. I don’t think the chick even posts here anymore.

[ul]:o [sup]I resemble that remark. [/sup][/ul]
Its almost as much of a classic as some guy breaking in on discussions calling someone a putz.
Try to call that one old and tired.

Thanks for your answers!
I apologize for bringing up the topic again. ~blushes and runs out of the thread~
~J
No need to blush.
Sometimes running out of a thread is wise though.
I still think its a funny story.
This place sometimes gets a little stuffy.
Opal is one of SDMB’s characters as was Wally.
