Great advice all. And even without reading the thread, I had dumped the pimp idea. my buddy brought over the stuff and I tried it on. It just doesn’t work for me. Just did not feel like the impression I’m wanting to make.
I am digging the classic vampire thing a lot of people are suggesting. I have black hair (with some gray mixed in) that would probably work slicked back. And I think she would appreciate the “matching” effort.
I actually like the Van Helsing idea – it’s simultaneously complementary to her costume, but a bit more out of the box creatively than just two matching vampires.
Also, built-in way to tease / flirt with each other.
I’m going to put in a vote for “vampire-themed, but not another vampire”. If she’s putting in so much effort, you want to be sure that it’s you complementing her, not her complementing you. Van Helsing would work if you can pull it off, and if not, bite victim like j666 suggested should be easy enough.
I’ve decided. Ultra classy vampire victim it is. This date should be all about her, so I’m playing to her lead on the costume. I called to reserve a tux and will go tomorrow for measurements. I have a tux shirt from a few years back that I don’t mind ruining with fake blood. I’ve done some research on how to use make up to create the pale look of someone who has been drained of blood and also how to do very realistic bike marks. A little blood running down to my collar and then a nice red soaking there will be unmistakeable.
I think she will really like the effort and that I’m not trying to overshadow her
I’ll report back with how it goes. I haven’t been this excited about a date in 25 years.
If you have some time to put it together, Wintercrofthas some truly spectacular masks for download. All you need is the plans, some cardboard, scissors, and tape.
I’d go easy on the blood, if I were you. After all, the vampires are the ones doing the biting, not getting bitten. Bela Lugosi didn’t have blood on his neck.
Well, to come back and close the loop…great advice, everyone! I pulled off a solid costume of a Vampire Victim using a rented tux, and some accessories to make it look like formal wear from back in the Victorian age.
I used liquid latex to create two very realistic looking bite wounds, and then used combinations of red and brown grease paint to create the wound coloring. Then I used grey makeup to give my entire face a pale (drained of blood) look, and hollowed out looking eyes. Also used a very light gray eyeliner pencil to draw in some veins on the side of my face and neck where the bites were. A little stage blood looking like it had leaked out of the wounds finished the look.
She (my date for the night) lived up to her end with a multiple layer Victorian goth vampress thing. Super sexy, lacy, tight, full length blood red dress, pale make up, etc. The dress was very open at top, off both shoulders. Good lord, she looked great. Fake fangs and wild curled hair completed the look.
Best of all, I managed to strike the right balance of showing I could put on a good performance, but not steal the attention from her. She loved it! We must have posed for two dozen pictures for people we didn’t even know.
Thanks everyone for the advice. Would not have come up with this on my own.
