So, here is the set-up. I just changed jobs this week, as in reported to a new office Monday of this week after leaving previous job on Friday. There was a woman at my old office who I had always had kind of a flirty thing going on with, even with our age difference (I’m 51, she is 35).
But in-office romances were frowned on, but hey, now I wasn’t in-office anymore, and texting/calling/flirting OUTSIDE the office quickly ensued. We had never even spoken outside of the office.
Anyway, we have a date!! Since divorcing about two years ago, I’ve done a little dating, but I’m stupidly excited about this one. We have great chemistry!
So, here is the question. First date is a Halloween party. She is really into Halloween, and has been planning her costume for months. Sexy goth vampire. So I have two weeks to come up with something. Doesn’t have to match her costume, but would not be horrible if it did.
I think I’m leaning towards something outlandish and fun, but I willing to put some effort into it.
Buddy of mine has a pimp hat, faux fur coat, feather boa, and afro wig he wore last year. He looked pretty good last year. I can hit the vintage clothing websites and find some crazy bell bottom pants.
Thoughts?
Any other ideas?
I fairly excited about this, if you hadn’t caught on to that by now.:D:D
I suggested a friend of mine go as Slash one year… didn’t take much effort and went over very well. He took a Guitar Hero controller to the party to complete the look.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always wanted to go as a Hasidic Jew. I just love the whole get-up with the coat and hat and of course full beard and payot (curly fry sideburns). I haven’t had the chance to do it yet, but one of these days… anyway that’s my vote.
I think you should rent a tux and go as a classic vampire, to complement her costume that she is working so hard on. You do tux, cape, white face paint, slicked back hair and some good vampire teeth (these are awesome btw). You look good, you make her look good, and you don’t overshadow her effort or end up being embarrassing (a pimp? come on man.)
I second this. Girl wants to be the center of attention and being a sort of accessory for her will score you points. Plus, who doesn’t love a man in a tux.
If you’d really rather do the fun / funny thing, go as Van Helsing; then you can spend the evening trying stake her
Another vote for this. I’d even suggest renting a white tie getup. Check out a costume place for the cape. Then a bit of makeup, hair slicking & vampire teeth.
You’ll look good, not like a pimp. And you’ll complement her costume.
Another vote for it. You need to avoid showing her up with a better costume or embarrassing her in any way. The classic dapper vampire complements her costume without drawing attention away from it.
As someone else who loves Halloween, I’m going to go against the crowd. If my date knew this and showed up in something so simple, I’d be mildly disappointed. Although I’d be grateful for any and all participation, what would really get my motor purring is effort. Something outside the box or highly creative would, to me, indicate even more interest… in me, the things I like, showing how happy you are to be doing what I want. Or at least that’s how I’d see it.
As to ideas? You can still go really simple and yet be way cool. How about a throwback? Like Gilligan, Oko-era John Lennon or a beatnik. Good luck!
Another vote for the classic Dracula look. You’re an older man going on a date with a younger woman, so I would think you would want to look distinguished and mature.
Those are good points and I also think if the OP will definitely look into it and like he made an effort if he classes it up and goes a step above the usual cheezy Dracula type… You could be right, but my spidey sense say that this chick wants to look good for leftyand again, I think him going as something that complements *her *will impress her a lot.
Don’t do the afro wig. That can rub some people the wrong way. it’s one thing to do it with friends who already know you, but with new people, it’s a potential hassle you don’t need on a first date.
A costume I saw one time that was simple but very clever consisted of a Boba Fett helmet, a normal suit and tie, and a briefcase. He was Boba Fett, Attorney at Law.
