The Orlando Joneses
Especially good for the track team. Everyone would be trying to keep up with the Joneses.
Worcester (MA) Shears
Fuller (KS) Brushmen
Jackson (WY) Fives
Bird-in-Hand (PA) Two-in-bushes
(OK, maybe that last one is too much of a stretch…)
I have actually made this proposal to my school district superintendent, for whenever they get around to building a new high school.
There’s only one native Austinite in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and his nickname would be a great name for a school sports team.
Hint: he still holds the NFL record for interceptions in one season.
Dick Lane High School
And the football team could be called the Night Train(s). Singular or plural, they both work.
Vader (WA) Lords
Manson (WA) Charlies
Drain (OR) Holes
Homer (AK) Simpsons
Horsefly (BC) Pests
I’m trying to come up with something for Boring (OR) but seem to have reached the limit of smartaleckness for the moment.
Belfry, MT is the bats. We drove through there one day a few years ago.
I’m amazed anyone from outside of he area knows that. I’ve lived in CAR-mel for years. My kids played travel soccer and a lady from the other team kept calling us car-MEL. Eventually I politely told her that it is pronounced CAR-mel. She looked at me and said “No it’s not… we’ve played them before.” I just shook my head and walked away.
For a nearby real one… the Frankfort (IN) Hot Dogs.
(This is a real one) The Carlsbad NM Cavemen/Cavegirls
Stretch it 'til it breaks, baby!
I am not aware of a “Marin High School” in California. Marin Catholic, Marin Academy, and San Marin, yes.
Besides, there’s already a school in Marin with the mascot Mariners - College of Marin.
My sister used to live in Indianapolis and corrected me when I told her I was staying in car-MEL on business.
Rochester (NY or MN, your pick) Mr. Bennies
There, I’ve broken it…
This school’s mascot is the Trojans. A change should be considered. Aerial view.
In 1999, the new and current Parkland High School building on Cedar Crest Boulevard in Allentown was opened due to overcapacity of the second building. The old school was renovated and renamed Orefield Middle School, replacing Troxell Junior High School.[5][6] When viewed from above, the layout of the current building and grounds closely approximate the shape of the Millennium Falcon, a spacecraft featured in the Star Wars films.[7] School officials claim that the design was not deliberate
For a few years, there was an intramural basketball team at the University of North Colorado named the Fighting Whites, with multiple variations on the name including the Fightin’ Whities. See the Wikipedia page
…
IF there isn’t a Marin High there sure could be. This whole thread depends on the idea of schools named for their towns.
My suggestion was not to name the team the “Mariners”. That’s an obvious and sensible name.
My suggestion was to than them simply the “Ers”. Which is stupid and (maybe a little) silly.
Why not the Marin Aras?
Brick, Nj offers so many possibilities.
Brick Walls
Brick Layers
Brick Shithouses
Sadly, the two high schools’ teams are the Mustangs and the Green Dragons.
Speaking of brick walls, there is also a town called Wall, which should really be home to the Wall Flowers.
We also should have the:
Union Busters
Egg Harbor Scramblers
Cape May Bees
Our neighbors in PA should have the
Gap Jeans
Mars Rovers
Beaver Hunters
Beaver Splitters might be a better name, at least for the male teams.
Fishkill (NY) Dynamiters
As for Beaver, I’d go with Mounties
I had a thought about Liberal (KS), but I didn’t want to get into political wrangling here.
In a real irony, Liberal High School mascot is the very un-PC Redskins.
