This reminds me of my poor nephew. My brother and his family moved to a new town and my nephew was looking forward to playing on the football team (despite everything I could do to talk him out of it). Alas, his team’s colors are purple and yellow. Even more unfortunately, the team mascot is a dragon which, through years of use, has worn off most of the hard dragonlike edges and is now a dead ringer for Barney. He said that nobody goes to the games out of embarassment, and being on the football team is an invitation to continual beatings for being a nerdy Barney-lover. Now THAT’S what we need MORE of in HS football.
My school colors kindergarten through high school were red and blue. Go Mustangs! Our rivals, the Purple Eagles were one of those unfortunate schools with purple and gold for colors. All the more reason to make fun of them. My college colors are maroon and white, and our mascot is the “Express”, which is like the Wells-Fargo wagon (our school was founded by Henry Wells). Not the most motivating mascot in the world.
Panchitaville, thank you for the pic. I found that one, but I didn’t think it did him justice (whatever that would be for a mascot). I guess it is the only one though.
Welcome, King of Spain! Hope you like it here.
Junior High(The Landon Lancers)Red and Gray
High School(The Topeka West Chargers)Purple and White
College(The Washburn University Ichabods)Blue and White
If I might digress slightly from the original school color idea, I’ll tell you about the unit patch I wore in the Army. It showed an black eagles claw clutching a lightning bolt against a blue sky.(I was in the Army Security Agency)Now, think of the tune to “The Green Berets” and here is how WE sang it:
"Black is for the night we fear,
Blue for seas we don’t go near,
White is for the flag we fly,
Yellow is the reason why.
Red is for the blood we shed,
Notice that there IS no red…
and so on it went!
