Hilarious pronunciation guide on YouTube

I’m geeky enough to know what “synecdoche” means without looking it up, but it’s not a word I ever say out loud, so when I came across the word in an article just now, I wondered, “do I even know the correct pronunciation? Let me check…”

And then I came across this YouTube “pronunciation manual.”

If you need a quick laugh, it’s definitely worth checking out.

That’s way funnier than it has any right to be.

I just learned the word “synecdoche”, along with this pronunciation, fairly recently. I would not have guessed.

I think the humor wears off after a few words, as the joke gets stale - but for a short while it cracked me up.

I laughed. After a few words it was enough but that’s ok

Oh, I agree. I found it quite by accident many years ago looking up the pronunciation of “Goethe” to send to somebody. It made me laugh, it did.

I do like the pronunciation of Brett Kavanaugh though.

I love these, as long as they aren’t the only results I find when I really want to know how to pronounce something, or I’m not in a rush to find info. It can be hard to remember the name of the channel (or is it channels?) that are fake

They do get old if you just listen to a bunch at once, but then they can be funny again later.

The town I grew up is mispronouced by everyone who didn’t grow there. Type “waupun” into Youtube search, and the first autofill suggestion is “waupun gangnam style”, and in fact, Psy comes pretty damned close. Waupun, said by locals, rhymes with a midwestern train conductor saying “Hop on!”, and all online pronouncers have it wrong.
