This dude Vern, one of my current favorite movie reviewers, writes about movies (mostly) from the persona of guy who’s lived a life of–wait, I’ll let him tell you:
The blog itself seems to be titled, “Then Fuck You Jack.” He’s written hilarious books about Steven Segal (Seagalology) and Bruce Willis (Yippee Ki-Yay Moviegoer!). And his review of Garfield is a thing of beauty. All of his reviews, even of movies you’d never watch, are worth reading just for the entertainment value. And they always contain a pretty solid ratio of serious insight.
Anyway, he reviewed the final episode of LOST. Without the benefit of seeing any of the rest of the series. So it’s a hilarious study in WTF? with such gems as–
–and–
–and–
Anyway, obviously this is not everyone’s cup of tea. I’m sure it will annoy some LOSTies. But his stuff always cracks me up, so I thought I’d share.
Meh, I’ve read some pretty funny reviews of the final episode (and I’m a pretty serious Lostie), but if these are the gems this guy is way out of his depth.
Glanced at it. I’ve read some hilarious stuff about Lost, but this was just poorly written garbage cobbled together by what seems to be a 12 year old. Pathetic.
It wasn’t quite as good as the fantastic Garfield review; I think it could have been better if he’d known just a little more about it. (Obviously the point is that he didn’t know anything, but that’s why it lacks any specific insight into Lost.)
Yeah, neither did I. That was kinda the gimmick: what would LOST look like to someone who just watched the last episode, without having seen any of the rest of it? I referred to his insight as regards his film reviews in general. Humor plus insight plus his (possibly faux) uneducated street lingo makes his reviews pretty entertaining. Obviously though, to repeat myself, he’s not for everyone. Especially for people who just “glance” at one piece and judge the rest of his stuff based on that glance. Glancing only gets you tone, not content, and his tone would no doubt be annoying to some people.
Although I thought it was pretty insightful that LOST woulda been better with more dinosaurs.
To me the most notable thing about the review is that he seemed to comprehend what was going on just as much (or as little) as those of us who watched every single episode from the beginning. Aside from a few little things he couldn’t have known (like Hurley having a girlfriend), he pretty much got the gist of the story and much of the metaphysical hoo-hah without having to bother with 6 years worth of episodes. And the things that confused him were pretty much the same things that confused folks who’d seen the whole series.
The more time goes by, the more disappointed I am in the finale. This only helps to illustrate why.
