Hilariously poor driving - video

Parking-lot-challenged Canadian BMW driver has now been watched 4 million times.

Could someone actually be this clueless behind the wheel?
Or drunk, or in a panicked fugue state, perhaps?

Not quite that bad, but I have seen people struggle with figuring out turning the steering wheel for reversing. It’s so frustrating, you just want to reach into the driver side window and take control.

You reminded me - I did just that a few years ago. A guy was having an awful time trying to parallel park and getting very flustered. I asked if he wanted me to park his car for him and he appeared quite grateful and let me do it.

Watch people backing a trailer sometime.

No kidding.

The person in the video shouldn’t be allowed the control of a shopping cart, much less a car.

If you’re not experienced backing up a trailer it can be challenging. Everything for the trailer works opposite to the vehicle. I’ve borrowed trailers in the past and I really had to think about what I was doing. Backing up a car is pretty damned straight forward though, or should be!

My wife is not quite that bad, but I’ve had to explain to her on at least three separate occasions that if you turn the wheel, back up, then go forwards without turning the wheel at all, you end up in the same place.

That’s painful to watch, but IMHO this driver is worse (and funnier).

I just finished a trailer towing course for work and one of the challenges the instructor asked us to do was parallel park a 20 ft cargo trailer attached to a 9 pass Econoline van. Got it second try, but I had to get out twice to see blind spots. The other was to do a reverse serpentine with a 30 ft trailer and a 1 ton pickup. It’s amazing that people NEVER ask for help or even get out to see how close they are to another vehicle. Then again, this is the same mass of humanity that will go through the full drive through when the counters are empty…

FWIW, apparently the woman wasn’t even aware she had hit the car. How is that even possible?!? If you are that distracted, you shouldn’t be on the road with a licence!

I finally got round to watching the Canadian video yesterday. Now there’s this one.

I don’t understand how drivers can be that incompetent, unless they are impaired. And I’ve seen some clueless drivers. These people are parodies.

Calgary police are investigating.

I like this part:

I’d say the driver is just completely plastered. Pretty straightforward explanation.

That, probably. My other theory is that maybe the driver has some sort of shoulder injury or injuries that prevented him/her to turn the wheel more than an inch or two at a time and not be able to look over his/her shoulder as well. If, in the kinda unlikely case that this is so, I’m betting heavy you-should-not-drive-or-operate-heavy-equipment painkillers are involved.

Or the person is a flat-out dingbat.

<cough> Why assume the driver was a woman? :dubious: (I am a woman…)

Maneuvering a trailer is a whole different level, I agree. Back in the '80s I drove a semi over the road for a few years and it does take a few to get used to driving something that high, wide, heavy and bendy in the middle.

Snowboarder Bo’s contribution was also excruciating to watch. Holy shit. I have a hard time understanding how these drivers can be so utterly and pathetically inept. I’m going with really drunk or high, I think. (Or a child attempting to drive under the influence.) I do hope they can figure out who this driver is. With the amount of publicity this is getting, I don’t think I’d be wanting to drive a silver BMW SUV in Calgary right now.

The curb didn’t look too tall-I’d have back up onto the grass.

This doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I’ve watched all 10 seasons of “Canada’s Worst Driver” and it seems like a majority of the contestants come from Alberta. I’m not sure this guy would even crack top 10 for that show–I mean, he got out of the parking lot, didn’t he, and he only hit one car, out of a possible 3-4.

Edit: OK, maybe he hit 2 cars, not sure if he tapped that white SUV, too.
