Canada's Worst Driver: Season Seven

It’s back! They’re back! I’m once again horrified that all of these people are legally able to drive in Canada (and hey, the US, too, if they decide to go visiting!). I was flabbergasted at the woman who was obviously completely terrified when she was behind the wheel (with the skills to match), and rated her driving as 8 out of 10 still. Holy Disconnect, Batman!

There’s always at least one driver from Calgary on the show - this season, there are two. Crap. Well, on the plus side, that was two horrible drivers that were out of Calgary for the duration of the filming. Yay!

ok this show is friggin great,

of course I teach drivers ed so I might be biased, but once again thanks to the dope I have new tools for the job.

And one from Lethbridge! Not sure if we should be proud or not.

There are a couple of really scary ones in this series–the Corvette driver with the lead foot, and the woman from Montreal who ignores red lights. Of course, the woman who won’t merge, and who stops everywhere is pretty bad too. Anyway, it looks like it will be another fun series.

Yeah, I don’t see people putting a big sign outside of town - “Home of Canada’s Worst Driver!”

I feel a lot of sympathy for the guy who was seriously injured by another car when he was just backing out of his driveway, but damn, what is he doing still driving if he can’t do it any longer? If he has to re-learn, he has to re-learn, just like with everything else he’s lost. I get so frustrated with our driver licensing system - it’s such a serious, dangerous thing to drive a car, and we take it so lightly here.

It would be immediately tagged with “We knew.”

Oh, I thought of something interesting that happened on the episode - the girl from Montreal (who doesn’t think she needs to be on the show) was actually driving so badly that the cameraman in the car with her actually stopped her and called in the van to have her driven to the show location. I believe that is unprecedented on the show.

Yeah, I’ve never seen that happen before - I didn’t get a really good look at the speedometer, but it looked like she was going ~130km/h. The weird thing was that they then mentioned that the guy behind her was going just as fast (corvette guy, IIRC). Why wasn’t he stopped? Did he not have a cameraman in his car? I wonder why they would have camaramen in some cars and not in others.

I think she was doing 135++. The corvet had no camera man because he had no back seat - they just mounted cameras around his car. (They mentioned it early in the episode.)

Oh, Sweet Lordy Lord!* :eek::eek:

I just finished season 5 on youtube and I am Shocked and Appalled™. I knew there were bad drivers, but Mike Butt and Angelina really angered me with their shockingly bad driving. But the fact that Angelina doesn’t seem to care is infuriating. :frowning: I feel terrible for the family that she will inevitably destroy one day. Sad to say, Christine ought to consider taking out a hefty life insurance policy on herself as she may very well be a party to the tragedy Angelina wreaks on some Canadian highway.

I’m a cyclist and I am almost reconsidering riding on the roads. I’ve no doubt there drivers just as bad as them here in the U.S. Do I keep watching? I dunno.

*And I say that as an atheist.

I remember Angelina - what a useless, useless git that girl is. I seem to recall that she was one of the ones who got her license by smiling pretty at the tester.

It’s interesting that so many bad drivers fall into one of two categories:

  • Young men who’re dangerous because they have road rage and want to hurt someone
  • Young women who’re dangerous because they’re vain and stupid and don’t care if they hurt someone

Those drivers are boring, though, because they’re all the same. The ones I find fascinating are drivers like Jason Zhang, who despite being otherwise presumably normal humans, simply lack some basic mental capability required to drive a motor vehicle.

Ah, that makes sense. Never thought of that. I was watching it while cooking dinner, so I must have missed that detail when they mentioned it.

I get the feeling that she’s going to be another Angelina - she really doesn’t seem to care about her poor driving or have any concept of how dangerous it is. I with this show had the authority to take away people’s licences.

I don’t watch the show regularly, so maybe the fans here can tell me which season it was - I saw an episode where it was mid-way through the season, and instead of sending the best remaining/most improved driver home, instead they sent this older lady home because they thought it was too dangerous for her to remain on the show. IIRC, they didn’t have the power to take away her license, but the show specifically said they would be contacting the authorities to ensure that whatever government department is in charge of that would follow-up, and maybe they even got the police involved? I can’t remember exactly.

The fun part of the show is knowing that there’s a basic life skill at which you are way, way better than someone.

The scary part is that there are THOUSANDS of these people out there, and they kill other people.

I think it was last season that had the cocky young idiot who was bragging about all the incredibly dangerous things he did (in Calgary, no less - I was actually mad listening to him - those are the same roads I and my loved ones drive on!); he had already lost his insurance, so when his friend who nominated him took him off his insurance, they kicked him off the show because he wasn’t a legal driver any longer. Hah.

I also recall that there was another idiot who was bragging about all the illegal, dangerous things he did (I can’t remember if it was the same one or not), and Cam Woolley, the retired cop, passed this all on to the idiot’s local police. No idea what happened after that, but I hope that he got special notice from his local cops after that.

I remember that, too - I think she had a serious heart problem, and could have had a heart attack at any time. I also think she is the one who sent a nasty letter to Canada’s Worst Driver, blaming them for her having her license taken away. Some people will never, ever get it.

I just finished season six. I can’t believe Dale and Lance are still driving. That’s terrible. Shouldn’t they be worried about being profiled by their local police? If I were a cop in their jurisdiction, I’d consider CWD to have given me a gift. What’s to stop them from basically just following the bad driver around and issuing citation after citation ad infinitum? Hell, they’d probably hand the cop the keys to the city for generating so much revenue for the city. I keep thinking of Dale’s neighbor saying that her kids aren’t allowed to pass the garden in the front yard. (Too bad a cop doesn’t live on Dale’s street.) None of her family will even allow their children to be either in the car with her or even be babysat by her out of fear of the consequences of her atrocious driving. Don’t they give a shit about other people’s families and children? She’s a fucking menace.

Don’t get me started on Lance. The very idea of him driving makes me want to puke myself. What a self-absorbed pansy-ass douchebag.

Surely at some point your license gets revoked and/or insurance companies absolutely refuse to insure you. I just have a hard time accepting that either of those two people still get to legally operate a vehicle.

Watching this show has made me re-evaluate my own driving skills and, while I’m probably not a particularly bad driver (actually who really thinks they are), I certainly have room for improvement. One of the things I learned from this show is how to hold the steering wheel. I grew up understanding 10-2, but I frequently drive with my left hand at 12 o’clock (I drive a stick). I now understand that airbags now make this dangerous, but 9-3 feels so weird. Also, I’ve noticed I don’t shoulder check because I hate turning my head away from the direction I’m traveling in. But I did learn how to set my mirrors from the Car Guys, so I really don’t think I’ve got a blind spot. Am I deluding myself?

Aside: I don’t know how anyone saw anything out the side and rear windows of that Camaro. Talk about a car with extremely limited visibility. I almost felt sorry for those guys trying in vain to reverse well at all in that car through the stacked rims. At least I felt sorry for the ones that attempted to see what they were working with.

Interesting show tonight. Afiya (sp?) remains clueless about how dangerous she really is. Jon (Corvette guy) and Sly (from my little city of Lethbridge) at least seem to be beginning to understand how dangerous they are.

In other news, I may have met Sly’s brother-in-law, Fred, who nominated Sly to the show. He looks awfully familiar.

Oh yeah, Dale. She was completely teflon - everything just ran right off of her, and nothing stuck.

I haven’t heard any updates on shoulder checking that says that mirror placement eliminates blind spots.

My husband’s new Mustang is terrible for me to drive - I basically can’t see anything when I shoulder check to the left. It has special mirrors that help eliminate blind spots, but after driving for 28 years, I am not comfortable not being able to shoulder check.

It blows my mind that Sly is actually working as a deliver driver - he has zero driving skills.

Afiya was infuriating again - especially when she was yelling about how pointless the driving lessons were while she was backing over the rails. She really seems like an idiot.

Jon seemed to be really sincere when he said Aaron had made him reconsider texting and speeding while driving. But I wonder if he’ll really stick to those promises? Texting while driving has to be one of the stupidest things to do behind the wheel. It really pisses me off that so many people seem to think that they are better than average drivers and they can handle it.

Link. If you look at the picture, you’ll notice that the blind zones are narrow enough to not hide anything. I can see cars (if not fully, at least partially) or motorcycles at every position behind and to the side of me just by looking the mirrors. Also, if I lean laterally very slightly while looking at either side mirror, I can even see into the blind zones, not that this is all that necessary.

Essentially, this means I have no blind spot.
