Hillary & Bill heading to the Hamptons after she steps down.

NY Times Article:

They rented a place for awhile last year.

One more article:

Hillary & Bill will be mingling with the richest people in the world. There’s not anywhere more exclusive in NY state than the Hamptons. Kicking back with great ocean views and walks on the beach.

Bill was my governor and I was in high school when he first got elected. Money was always an issue. At that time our former governors were wealthy and Winthrop Rockefeller for example donated his $10,000 governor’s salary to charity. Hillary worked at the Rose Law Firm and I’m sure her salary was much needed. Things were a little better when Bill became President, but the Clintons were never very wealthy. They sacrificed a lot for public service.

I’m glad they can afford the rich life now. Hillary is planning to write a book and that will set them up quite nicely. With Bill’s health issues I hope they focus on a happy and comfortable retirement.

I hope she doesn’t run in 2016. They’ve dedicated almost every second of their adult lives in public service. He’s 66 now and Hillary is 65. They need to enjoy retirement while their health is still reasonably good. I can’t see Bill making it past 70 unless he slows down and avoids stress.

Whatever they do, I wish them the best.

They got a taste of the Hamptons last year.

Makes sense.
Hamptons are close to NYC and easy flights in and out.
Bill earns a nice chunk of change for speaking engagements and I would guess Hillary will be earning as much as well - so they will need to fly off to wherever to speak to whomever on a regular basis.

I still have the sneaking suspicion that Hillary might possibly consider another run for the White House. Give her two years to rest and relax and see if she is up for it. I do agree that Bill’s health isn’t the best, so that might be a factor.

The article from the New York Times says they’re thinking of moving to the Hamptons. I think that’s too bad, as I liked the idea that they live in Chappaqua, as I know that town.

On the other hand, the article also mentioned the possibility of her taking the presidency of Yale, which I like. Perhaps we’d see them around New Haven.

Lily Pond Lane is mentioned in the nostalgiac Dylan song about his marriage, “Sara.”

The next president of Yale has already been selected. Peter Salovey was named about a month ago.

Um, while I have great respect for the Clinton’s this part of the statement is strange. Bill and Hilary are the richest living ex-Presidential couple. And likely one of the top ex-presidents ever. More so than either of the Bush’s. Last I read their combined net worth was between $80 and $100 million dollars while the Bush’s combined for about $50 million.

I think she’ll write a book. Because why the hell not? But to think that the financial incentive in writing it has any factor at all is to ignore the facts of the matter.

Bill made much of their money on speaking tours and his book after leaving office. I know the Clintons are very wealthy now.

Hillary made a little money investing in the Futures market in the late 70’s. That came up during the Whitewater investigation because the owner of Tyson Foods was advising her. Fortunately, she stopped after a few successful investments and it wasn’t a big chunk of money. Hillary wasn’t hurt by the Whitewater investigation. But, the money she made did allow Bill to continue running for Governor over and over again. Back then we had 2 year terms for Arkansas governor.

They’ll have to move back out once they get taxed their fair share.

Not really the right forum, but my first thought was that if Emily Thorn (aka Amanda Clarke) had a bone to pick with the Clintons, she could take them on once the Graysons are dealt with.

I have no problem with anyone making money but the idea that the Clintons sacrificed anything to be governor of Arkansas is a little rich. They got to live starting at the age of 32, in a taxpayer provided mansion, with a taxpayer provided car, and with a salary at least comensurate with what a young law professor would make. Having a husband who was the governor probably allowed Hillary to make twice as much at her law office. When he was president they had another huge mansion to live in, all travel provided for and vacations at numerous estates. Their lifestyle has been of the wealth and privilege since entering politics. They are both smart and hardworking people and would probably be succesful no matter what they did, but the idea they sacrificed anything in terms of lifestyle to go into politics does not hold up.

NY Times 2008 article chronicles the Clintons making $109 million in 8 years. They’ll be able to afford the Hamptons or anyplace on earth, even after taxes.

He’s been doing that for quite a while through the Clinton Global Initiative, trips to Davos, and things like that. I’m sure she could get a significant amount of money for a book about her time as Secretary of State, but she did write a memoir already (Living History, 2003) and got a big advance. Then Bill agreed to write his memoirs and got an even bigger advance. They will never want for money. I am sure she’ll take some time off but I have trouble imagining the two of them retiring. He can’t get enough of the spotlight and she’s very serious about her causes.

Where I live (think Caribbean paradise) everybody was pretty sure that the Clintons would be retiring here about 6 years ago. They spent a lot of time here (Hillary cut the ribbon of my daughter’s school), but in the end I don’t see them retiring to this isolated spot of earth, however pretty and nice, especially not Bill, the man is an attention whore.

Bill still plays golf here once in a while.
