Hillary Clinton's Presidential Campaign Discussion

That alone should make the delegates dump him.

I wonder if Democrats and the Clinton campaign are at least somewhat considering the possibility that someone else may yet be the nominee. THeir attacks on Trump are awfully specific to Trump, rather than the general attacks on conservative ideology that would work against any opponent.

In any case, it would be enjoyable for Trump to get dumped and render all of Warren and Clinton’s hard work against him irrelevant.

That’s a brilliant strategy. They should totally do that.

You gotta admit, any option is better than Trump at this point.

Better for the country, yes. Better for the GOP, I have my doubts. I think if they nuke Trump, the mouthbreathers who support him will make the petulant Berniebros look like the very height of reasoned discourse.

Probably.

Plus, if that happened, the Democrats would hardly be the only ones with catching up to do. And they could still use Trump against the replacement, if only to remind everyone of the chaos caused because a bunch of Republican voters thought Trump was the best representative of their ideals and beliefs.

I’m not sure how effective running against voters is. If the party establishment had wanted Trump, that could be used against the party, but I’m not sure how you use Trump against an establishment that didn’t want him and went so far as to reject him.

I was thinking mostly in terms of painting the party and its members as being in disarray, reminding Trump voters how they got screwed so they stay away from the polls, and replaying all those endorsing statements from earlier to suggest that they’re either hypocrites or still secretly support the dude.

Oh yeah the party is in disarray. Don’t know if you’ve been following this, but Paul Ryan has been issuing policy papers on various issues citing what the Republicans will do if they keep the House and Senate. Ryan THINKS that a President Trump would sign these bills. You know you’re in disarray when you’re not sure you can get anything done with total control. We might not even get an acceptable Supreme Court pick out of this. Trump’s cited judges with liberal records as ideal choices. Wouldn’t that be a hoot, Republicans obstructing Trump and Trump vetoing their shit in retaliation?

Has he released some new list? I thought the judges he listed were all conservative.

So did it turn out one of them smoked reefer in college or something?

No, Trump released that list because prior to that he’d been talking about judges who weren’t so conservative. Anyone can release a list put together by someone else.

Not without just cause.

Guess I missed that, didn’t see it mentioned in articles when the list was news. Frankly, I would be surprised Trump could name any potential judges beside Judy without someone else telling him.

The stakes just got raised, apparently Clarence Thomas will retire after the election. Hillary will very likely get to replace two justices in her first few months. Now if Alito and Roberts were to die or retire, we could really get somewhere. Bye bye Citizens United. Adios Heller!

Hallelujah! If he retires just let McConnell and his do nothing stooges in the Senate continue to sit on their hands and see a solid 4-3 liberal majority on the court get down to business. Ha!

I’ve seen the Washington Examiner story, not sure how much of it is true. I could see Thomas retiring since he can obviously see that he is likely to be in the minority for a lot of the major decisions. Still, he’s only 68, so it might be a little early for him to retire unless he’s just not enjoying the court, especially without Scalia.

As much as I’d like to see Roberts and Alito retire, that isn’t likely to happen. I think RBG is probably likely to leave before anyone else, barring an unexpected death.

There’s a decent chance that Clarence Thomas is floating this is an attempt to motivate Republican voters. Or not. No way to know, I suppose.

Time will tell for sure.

… and, if this is so, nothing really points more to the sad state of the Repub party than that their two biggest lifelines are “Vote for us: Scalia’s dead and Thomas is retiring!” and “Dubya is helping raise money for us - yay!”

The other possibility that occurs to me is that he’s laying the groundwork to hit the eject button if it’s clear that Hillary is winning the election, figuring that Obama would be somewhat more likely to be “bipartisan” in appointing a replacement.

Or, with a liberal majority, and no desire to spend time writing dissenting opinions, he doesn’t feel like he’ll add much. There aren’t a lot of people who don’t believe he’s been in over his head for years, and with few opinions to his name, and few comments from the bench - he may not be interested in stepping up and proving them right.
