I normally wouldn’t think anything of it, especially with a 4% Rotten Tomatoes rating, but I noticed that the BBC says it is the top grossing documentary of the year.
So I was just curious if anyone thought it would affect the election at all–whether a significant change or a blip.
And if you’ve seen it, what did you think of the quality of the arguments being made? All I know is that it basically calls Democrats racists–the reviewer I like who sees bad movies actually walked out–for the first time in his life.
My wild-ass guess: It’ll reinforce beliefs for the people who already hate her and Democrats, but it probably won’t be seen by many people who aren’t already in the right-wing echo chamber.
I’ve seen my (right-wing) father posting “Watch Hillary’s America” on a few pro-Hillary facebook posts from mutual friends, but from the responses I’ve seen, no one seems eager to take him up on the offer.
In short: It won’t make much of a difference on the final outcome.
Documentaries usually don’t make much, so it’s the top grossing documentary of the year because it’s made $10.5 million so far. And it’s not been playing to packed houses, on the weekend it opened wide it made $3,258 per theater, which is good but not amazing. If it was making $10,000 or more per theater, then it would be evidence that there was a big audience for it and a lot of people were talking about it and wanted to see it but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
I agree with Happy Lendervedder, it will make very little difference on the election, and be seen by few people other than those who are already against Hillary.
It’s the same reason the right wing book press does so well initially. There’s a rabid base for anti-dem, anti-Hillary media and they’ll all buy it the first weekend each piece is available. But it’s not going to convince anyone to not vote for Hillary.
From the clips in the BBC interview, it looks like it relies pretty heavily on the post-civil war era to paint the Dems as racist. I have trouble believing that would be terribly convincing to a modern undecided voter.
“As of October 2, 2012, the film had grossed $32.9 million domestically, making it the fourth highest domestic grossing documentary and the second highest domestic grossing political documentary in the United States since 1982.”
I’m sorry. You can’t make a film in 2012, call it 2016, and then say it’s a documentary.
Will “Hillary’s America” have any effect on the election? No, people have pretty much gotten used to the whole “character assassination as cottage industry” thing by now.
It’ll destroy her! The sheeple will wake up and realize that not only Hillary “Clinton” Rotterdam, but all the Demokratik Party throughout history, are actually pro-slavery racists, and the only party any American of conscience should vote for is the Grand Old Republican Party of good ol’ Abraham Lincoln!
Oh, wait, no, what’s the other thing? It’ll pile more dirt on Dinesh D’Souza’s reputation, which is already below ground level.
This is Dinesh D’Souza, right? He probably could have built a case against Hillary herself if he’d worked at it. If I understand the trailers properly, he instead decided to pretend that the whole Democratic Party of today is the same as the Dixiecrats and the Jim Crow Democrats and so forth. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work anymore.
I hate the “New Democrats” and mock them as people who want to throw out FDR and go back to Jefferson and Jackson, and* I *know it doesn’t work.
