Hip replacement flip side.

Wednesday morning I’m going to have my right hip, aka the other one, replaced. The left one was replaced in 2K. That operation had to be done twice due to a dislocation.I hope this one only has to be done once.
Its funny, I barely remember the recuperation time except that I spent a lot of time here at SDMB.
And its the recuperation time that prompted this thread.
What the hell am I going to do for several weeks while things mend?It would be a good time to booklearn some technical operations. It was after a hand injury that I learned to install satellite dishes. I also decided to go into buisness for myself selling and installing them. That part turned out to be a costly mistake.
My entire technical background was focused toward STVRO so the subject was of great interest and the training proved easy.
Anyway I will have a bunch of free time that might be wasted if I don’t come up with something interesting to keep busy at.
Any ideas or comments welcome.

I have heard there is a smaller incsion now, rather than a zipper.
I’d like to hear first hand.

How about a business putting DSS LNBs in BUDs? You’s need two BUDs, but rain fade would be a thing of the past.

Well I’ll let you know about that incsion. The surgeon that did my left leg isn’t doing surgery anymore but he will assist. The new surgeon is quite young. I hope thats good. They don’t even make the type prosthesis I have anymore. WOW kinda like electronics.

I guess I’n way out of the satellite loop. What are DSS’ s and BUDS?

Pizza Dishes and C Band Big Ugly Dishes.

We mount Dishnetwork or DirectTV LNBs on 10’ dishes and users willpay $$$ to have rain fade proof TV.

Kewl.
I even own a few 10’ dishes.

My mother has had both hips done. You’ll find it easier to cope this time around. The change for the better in her is remarkable.

Good luck! Sending warm thoughts your way.

Ask someone to post or email your results, ok?
Thanks

I just showed mrs wannano AKA yes dear, how to access sdmb.
I’m just sitting here applying glide wax to my bedroom slippers. A little tune up for the crutches and walker and I’m ready.
I think I’ll borrow a few Louis La Moure(sp) books.
4 years ago Dinasaurs was the newest thing on PBS. I must have watched it 5 times. One of the last nights in the hospital I noticed that I just kept turning it up. One time the volume was so high that I couldn’t hear the nurse when she stopped to check on me.
I have a appointment with the surgeon tomorrow morn then wed morn is the operation.
Hospital stay is generally 4 days. I’m thinking it was 5 days last time.

I asked the surgeon about the incision. He said “We try to make a 5 inch incision and do it all through that. Sometimes we have to make it longer.”
Well tomorrow is going to be a long day and I won’t remember much of it.

Hey, good luck to you for tomorrow!

I’m sure your surgeon will be just fine, what you need to worry about (and since you’ve been in the hospital before you probably already know this) is the nurses.

They’re the people who’ll be looking after you for the next few days. A few kind words (and chocolates maybe?) will go a long way toward making your stay more comfortable.

In other words, suck-up to them… They have more power then you know

Best wishes, remind Mrs. wannano to post.

Has anyone heard from her?
Mrs. Wannano, my email address is cwmorrow@gbronline.com

Hey Hey Hey I just got home.
Everything went fine.
I have a 4 inch incision. Considering I have a 10 inch on the other side I think thats amazing.
I’m also home a full day ahead of schedule.
In order to avoid the dislocation problem I had last time he put in a larger ball.
If you guys could only see the hardware they had to put into that 4 inch hole you’d be amazed too.
This hip is complete load bearing from the start whereas the other was only partial load bearing at first.
Sorry Mrs wannano didn’t post. I guess she is scared of you guys.
If she only knew it should be the other way around.
She is quite a woman. Right now she is (fixing ) a flat tire. Yep I mean fixing.
Gotta go and lay down.
More later

Holy cow.

Er, glad everything went well.

I was concious throughout the whole operation.
They gave me a spinal block. Same as you ladies get for giving birth.
I didn’t feel a thing.
I heard the saws running and the Drs talking. There was a lot of chatter. My anethiologist was an oriental with a accent so i had to listen closely as he gave me the play by play.
I was a little reluctant about being concious. I remember the last time telling the same anesthiologist that I didn’t want to know anything until it was over.
The surgeon wanted to change the dressing and I had to tell several of the nurses that. When he did change them yesterday, day 2 , he uncovered everything and said" I just gotta show someone this."He was just pretty proud of his 4 inch incision.
More as I remember it.

Cool.
So, was the chatter about the surgery, or were they talking about a ball game?

No it was definately about the surgery.
Also
I’m not sure what the units of measurements are for morphine, are but I was in so little pain I only used 75 of a possible 360 units during recovery. you know when they tell you to push the button if you have any pain.Even then I mostly pushed it in anticipation of physical therapy etc.
Even now I’m mostly just stiff. The joint just feels like a deep bruise.

To be fair I ought to tell you that my wife is really 118 pounds of pure terror.
