Has anyone received hippotherapy or been part of a program that incorporated it into their rehabilitation? How successful was it? Does insurance pay for it or do they consider too much cost? Tell me of your experiences?
I worked with a non-profit organization that did what they called “Horse Therapy” with both kids with emotional and behavioral problems as well as kids who had issues that a physical or occupational therapist would work with (MR, brain injury, autistic, etc.) during seperate sessions during the day.
I worked as a consultant with the behavioral kids and they seemed to benefit a great deal from the experience. I did not work with the kids with the physical and developmental probs.
I don’t believe that insurance paid for anything. The owners of the agency (and sometimes myself by doing speaking engagements, newspaper and tv interviews) appealed to businesses and other donors to sponsor either children or whole groups. The more money that could be raised, the more more kids that could be served and the more sessions could be done. They also depended on the hard work of a lot of volunteers and a lot of donations of equipment and feed.
Since this is asking for personal experience, it’s more appropriate for IMHO than GQ.
