His Divine Grace

I spent six weeks in Seattle about two years ago. I was there for work and I primarily hung out downtown, pioneer square and capitol hill. Had a blast and wish to relocate to Seattle very soon. My question concerns a chance meeting with a (not sure if there is a proper term) street vendor. He was a young guy with a mohawk and he was talking to people on the streets pushing books. Being in sales at the time, i stopped in my tracks and observed(he was having a hard time), when he spotted me he ran over to me and offered me a book at whatever price I thought was reasonable. I got 2 small and a large book for $7. I immediately lost one of the books in a restaurant, I tried very hard to read one of the other books called “Bhagavad-gita : As it is” and I’ve read bits and pieces of my one remaining book called “Easy Journey to other planets”. All three books were authored by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
The “Bagavagita: As it is” was very hard to understand and I believe on the inside of the book–maybe the preface—it said that the “Bhagavad-gita : As it is” could only be taught and understood by one man–the author. I then went to a well known bookstore–no not B&N-- and asked for some help. He told me that it usually takes people many many years to completely be taught of the book, and the author of the book is the only person that really understands the book. Usually a person has to study with a mentor–few and far betwween.
My question is what happens when A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada passes. Is the Krishna movement dead?

Apparently not entirely. The New Age religion that my mom joined (27 years ago and still going) taught/teaches from the Baghavagita. I remember reading it years ago.

did you understand it aenea

When I read it I understood it, I can’t remember too much of it now. It’s been 20 years or so. The book tries to teach a method of understanding yourself and finding a path to inner happiness, spiritual understanding, ect… with Hindu slant. Not light reading, but a pretty decent book.

Not that this will help you very much but I had to read excerpts from it in my high school World Lit class and I understood it then (I think!) I have a copy now. Maybe I’ll take another look and see if it was just a surface understanding–enough to pass the test!

I have a hobby. I have the world’s largest collection of seashells. I keep it scattered on beaches all over the world. Maybe you’ve seen some of it.
