Hizzoner and His Hit Men?

If the implications explored by http://indyweek.com/durham/2002-11-20/burtman.html this columnist hold water, it’s quite possible that the Great State of North Carolina just elected a Supreme Court Judge who contracted to have a man murdered.

Read the article, and let me know what you think.

This has got me really upset. I want to see some feedback.

Well, he didn’t actually contract the murder–he just suggested it. Free speech, you know.

oh, sorry. Forgot.

This type of thing is silly. There is no evidence whatsoever that the guy was involved, other than the suggestions of a couple of lawyers trying to get their own guy off the hook. Of course, there is speculation that all sorts of evidence is being supressed. Just as there always is.

My own suggestion is that Bill Clinton did it. Do you know how many people he murdered? Dozens - this was probably just one more on his long list.

Oldest story in the books. If you don’t like someone, there’s no end to what evil you won’t buy into about them.

Polycarp -

I think what is needed is either some substantive evidence that this judge actually did anything of the sort, or that the columnist get his ass fired for one of the nastiest political accusations I have ever read.

This goes way beyond the usual politicking of an election. This is an accusation of murder, for heaven’s sake.

The Independent is usually pretty good about documenting what it claims is news – though, as ultress will testify with reference to the Shearon-Harris nuclear plant, they’re not above a bit of a slant to increase the controversiality of a story. But for them to have accepted this column, there has to be some fire accounting for the smoke.

I’d love to know more about this.
