Yep, It was 108 degrees in Las Vegas yesterday but as in years past, Walmart has once again deemed end of August the official beginning of the Christmas merchandise sale.
I went to Walmart yesterday, August 28th, and there was an entire aisle full of huge lighted Santas, Frostys and Reindeers to put in your front yard.
We have some year round Christmas stores around here. Even the zoo that I often go to has a huge Christamas display in the gift shop all summer long. I think you are underestimating the market for this stuff in the summer. Actually, I think I may be underestimating the market as well but they are the ones with the marketing studies.
I don’t have a problem with those year-round stores. Hey, that is their niche and especially if their shop is located in Santa’s Village, well - what do you expect?
I just find it ridiculous that a major chain store, that doesn’t even have their Halloween items out on the shelves yet, is slapping down Christmas crap this early in the game. Then again, you are probably right…if idiots wouldn’t buy it in August, they wouldn’t put it out for sale. Just seems kind of silly and sad at the same time.
On the second of July this year, I went into a department store to get some decorations for my garden. I overheard the cashiers marvelling over the fact that the Christmas decorations had just arrived, but they were still waiting for the fall and Thanksgiving-themed items.
Mind you, this is not a massive corporate store, but a small, regional chain.
Vote for me. I’ll see to the passage of legislation that no season will start more than one month ahead of time. Anyone caught Santa Clausing, jingle belling or ho-ho-ing prior to the day after Thanksgiving will be publicly hanged as an example to the others.
