HO Train & Slot Car Dilemma for Christmas!!

Ok, I thought this might go under General Questions, but wasn’t sure, so I’m posting it here.

I am VERY interested in setting up a slot car set for my kiddos for Christmas. I grew up with one of these and remember spending HOURS with the rest of the family whooping it up and making a lot of noise and just generally having a blast with these HO-scale pocket rockets. My dad built a set that would fit just inside the bumpers on our pool table and it was really COOL because it also had a HO-scale railroad set with it, too. The really neat part was the cross-over track - a short section of racetrack that also had a railtrack crossing it. Like I said - HOURS of fun! We’d get the locomotive running on “autopilot” and then race the cars around the track, often narrowly missing (and more often hitting) the train as it crossed the racetrack.

My questions are:
1 - Does anyone know where I can find the special rail/slot car combination crossover track? I can’t seem to find one anywhere, and I’ve looked all over the web and in toy stores.
2 - I’m particularly interested in the AFX 9868 “Giant Raceway Slotcar Set” but again, am finding a pitiful lack of info on this product on the 'net. Particularly, I’m interested in knowing what kind of square footage is required for the layout.

If anyone that can help with either one of these questions, or just general slot car/HO train input, it would be greatly appreciated!

Let me get this straight.

You wanna get a HO train for your kids?

Whatta Dad!

Ever since Mattel bought out Tyco toys (not the same Tyco as the nearky bankrupt conglomerate), the road/rail crossing is no longer made. Look in the flea markets for Tyco trainsets, and you might get lucky.

If you’re interested in a starter trainset, however, check back with me and I’ll gladly help.
