I’d encourage the fruitcake-haters to check out alternatives, like the yummy looking ones at www.vermontcountrystore.com. Pricey, yes, but I suppose you could always make your own version of tipsy cake or similar.
my sister and BIL have been married for 22 years.
BIL and i have been exchanging the same fruitcake back and forth for 20 of those years.
neither of us even remembers how it got started, but at this point, it’s now the principal of the thing:

and we still doing it. all nicely wrapped and such, pretty bow, expensive paper - the whole enchilada. it’ll probably end up getting cut in half and end up in our caskets some day.
