I have work to do today, and everyone’s back from various vacations so I should be more focused. So instead I’m babbling on here.
I just caught up on a friend’s blog. She runs and bikes in all kinds of races and events. But last week her doctor told her she’s 20 lbs overweight! She’s my height and maybe weighs a bit more than I do, but I generally chalked that up to being considerably more muscular. How the heck does she need to lose that much weight?? I’m feeling very grrrrr for her. She doesn’t seem upset, but c’mon! Not everyone’s a supermodel. It sounds like her doc thinks she needs to weigh 120 in order to be healthy. That’s ridiculous for someone who’s probably 5’7" or 5’8"! (OK so maybe she’s ~150 now so she’s supposed to get down to 130. That’s still *really *thin for that height.) Sheesh.
My family just had our Christmas last weekend (we were up at the Grandparents for Christmas).
‘Christmas Eve’ we had burritos with guacamole. Christmas (all of them) my dad made turkey and dressing. Yum, usually, but my dad bought some off-brand turkey for our Christmas and it tasted SWEET. It cooked really weird too - the skin turned black, the white meat was dry, and the dark meat was not quite done. So, we’re limited on what we can do with it - it works in burritos but not sandwiches. And I think enchiladas or soup with sweet turkey would be gross. Luckily it’s really small.
I need to go to the laundromat or something soon. I’m almost out of clothes. Usually I do laundry at my parents, but their washer is being weird so I don’t want to make it worse. There’s tree roots blocking some of the pipes so if you do too big of a load the garage sink overflows. We came home from Grandma’s and the garage floor was still wet from a load my Mom did four days before, and it wasn’t even that big of a load. So I don’t want to make a mess.
Afternoon all! Holiday meals, eh? My family usually does the Christmas Lasagna because it’s easy to make and cook (which is essential in a house where five hyper holiday-crazed kids are running around) and everyone likes and can eat it. For New Year’s I went to a seafood place with Mountain Friend, New Guy, and New Guy’s Roommate. I had deviled crab for the first time in forever. Mmmm, deviled crab.
Speaking of roommates, Mehe Roommate is moving out at the end of the month. We are less that distraught. She’s had a few issues that brought all of us down. Complicated has someone in mind to take her place. Male, fortunately. We haven’t had much luck with the female roommates. Except for me, but that’s cuz I’m spayshul.
That’s it. I’m going to run away to your kitchen.
I’ve been putting cinnamon in all of my hot drinks lately. I blame the fact that I’ve been reading a lot of Dune novels lately.
Bobbio, you should save the trees until the beginning of March and then fire 'em up. They burn real good then.
Good luck to your mom, Lucky!
I tried eating vegans once, but they were too stringy. ::d&r::
taxi, I love gerbils! I miss having little gerblettes running around. Have you heard them drumming yet? It’s so adorable.
Speaking of gerbils, are you sure they’re both female, taxi? If not, have you considered getting a pet snake so you’ll have your own ready-made supply of dinners for the snake?
A sweet turkey? Hmmm… Was it marinated? Just sounds odd.
I discovered a problem related to how so many people have ham for NYE dinners - the supermarkets are out of split peas! Our usual store was completely out of green split and had one split (heh) bag of yellow peas that was leaking peas on the shelf. Next store had none of either kind. Third store had three bags of green, so I took them all and made soup with the three or four ham bones that had been collecting in the freezer.
Mystery of the day - why are helicopters hovering near my office? Is the opening of Macworld really that exciting, or was there a Big Flaming Death Wreck on the bridge? <checks news> Ah, protests over what’s happening in Gaza.
I really hope they’re both girls. I don’t need 3 zillion babies. And I hope they’re both currently-not-pregnant girls!
They haven’t started drumming, but they do squeak. It’s funny when they do that.
I got the pics uploaded at lunch so meet the girls. (No names yet and we’re really picky so no promises that we’ll take any suggestions. We do not like Lucy & Ethel or Laverne & Shirley or Thelma & Louise, and we can’t think of many other female pairs. No to Smokey & Midnight. So we’re stuck for now, but waiting to see their personalities take shape a bit more before we make a decision.)
Spaz, there’s always room for another person at our table. You’d have to drag yourself up to Canada, tho, and I may ask for dishwashing services as compensation (I love cooking, but I completely loathe washing dishes).
Sylver, this turkey of yours sounds mysterious indeed. I always thought that turkey, like all meats, would be a pretty consistent item regardless of brand, seeing as one bird is pretty much the same as the next… but I guess some are better than others after all. Sweet turkey? Ewwww.
taxi, those are some kee-ute rodents you got yourself. I’d like to nominate Bubble and Squeak as a possible name.
I had PT this morning and she says it will likely be another 4 months or so before my jaw heals completely. She gave me some different exercises to do, in addition to what I was doing before. Hence, my holiday meals consisted of cream of rice and Malt o Meal. Not very exciting.
Today has been interesting. It started out chipper and happy and then people started listening to their voice mail. It’s as quiet now as it was last Friday and virtually everyone is in the office today. I would say the mood is somber. I had a very frank discussion this morning with my director-who-isn’t-really-a-director and we both expect that our team will not exist by the end of the week. We had a rather odd discussion, trying to simultaneously plan, catch up, and wrap everything up, just in case. At any rate, all I can do now is wait, just like everyone else.
Oh, forgot to mention… We have wedding pictures. Hundreds of them. Got them on Saturday.
Somewhere shy of 500 images to wade through and pick which ones we like and want to print to put into an album or distribute to family. Eep…
Almost makes me long for the days of film, where the cost of film and processing was a limiting factor to the number of shots taken. Now, the only limitation is the size of the memory card in the camera, or the number of cards in the photographer’s pocket, and those things are almost as cheap as postage stamps now. So, now, photographers hold down the button and the camera goes click-click-click-click. On the plus side, it gives you the opportunity to pick the best version of group shots because someone always blinks. If nothing else, if there’s one terriffic shot, but someone blinked, I’ll be able to Photoshop their unblinking head from the shot where five other people blinked.
Meh. Standard turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, and stuffing on the night, or maybe the next day. Now I’m at home and mostly eating hot dogs, since there’s really very little to eat in this house.
On the brighter side, my $60 20 gig iPod came today; it seems to work fine, came with a wall charger and two cases, but no USB cord, so I can’t put any music on. Ah, well, that should be along soon enough.
Well, it seems that my manager has just managed to avoid a large scale calamity by the barest, most uncomfortable of margins. An email was about to go out to more than 200 people, including the company president and all of the senior vice presidents that one of our main systems was going to be shut off because the million dollar bill wasn’t paid. That would have been BAD!!
I can’t recall what we did for Christmas Eve dinner, but I don’t think we went out.
The tradition among my sibs and Mom has been to gather at my brother’s place for breakfast on Christmas morning. We’ve only attended once or twice since we lived in FL most of the past years. This year, bro decided to make it lunch/heavy appetizers and munchies. He baked a ham, plus there were salads, shrimp, deviled eggs, chicken chunks, sushi, cheese-n-crackers, jello jigglers, trifle, carrot cake, chips and dip, lots of beverages, and probably more stuff that I’ve forgotten. Plenty of food and I was stuffed!
New Year’s Day was a big nothing here, as usual. I probably cooked something, but don’t ask me what. I do know we didn’t leave the house all day.
We did go out for a delayed anniversary dinner on Dec 30 at the Japanese steak house. I had scallops and filet, **FCD **had shrimp and filet. It was really good, as has always been the case when we go eat there.
taxi, in tribute to one of my favorite musicals, A Chorus Line, I think you should name your rodents Tits and Ass!
I survived my first day back at work. And I discovered that I’m not the only one with no assigned work. I’ve got stuff to keep me busy, but it’d be nice to have a real task. So, why isn’t it Firday yet???
Not that I actually did anything of any importance or relevance or interest today… but tomorrow is another day, and I can hope that they’ll finally give me something worthwhile to do. And if they don’t, at least I’ve got you guys to provide some entertainment.
