I do so look forward to your posts. Too much to reply!
Howdy, everybody. I’m here. Couldn’t get to sleep till reaaaaally late last night, so am feeling groggy and tired today. I still have a bit of work to get done, so I’m going to do it. Read everything, absorbed not very damn much. I’ll be back, hopefully, after I finish Ms. Whiner.
Oh, taxi, what site did I link to for the Misti yarn? It’s available all over the place now; you might want to shop around for the best price +shipping. It is truly an insanely soft and heavenly yarn, though; you’ll want to just roll around in it and moan with delight.
IIRC, it was an ebay link, Mama Tigs
I’m up, it’s hellaciously windy out there and rainy, yuck. I have a non-computer literate friend coming over today to learn how to work Gmail, Craig’s List and to get his resume and cover letters written, licenses and references scanned, etc. He’s a very experienced general contractor who’s missing out on some good jobs because he has zero internet presence. We’re gonna fix that.
Shadow, that graple scarf is luscious–WANT!!! Did you knit that one on those humongous wooden needles too? What size are those things, anyway? It looks sooooo comfy…
Speaking of crafty stuff, my sister sent me this article that was written about her Yahoo quilting group–in the pic, my sis is third from the right standing, the one in the purple shirt. Ooh, that reminds me–I found some hemp/silk fabric in my stash I need to send her to experiment with dyeing on. It has a lovely hand and a neat sheen that I think would be stunning in the right quilt…
Bobbio, whereas I truly appreciated your weekend adventure post I can’t help but notice a distinct lack of pics of VunderKid. :dubious: A-HEM! snaps fingers
I got the van all fixed and the front end is ROCK solid again, hooray! It appears that the upper ball joints and upper control arm bushings were original equipment, so I guess I won’t have to replace them for another twenty years. Sure, I believe that! I also had to replace one rotor because the wheel bearing race was all funkified. Lucky for me the local auto parts store carries everything in stock for older Chevy trucks. Now all I need to do is get it aligned and I’m set. It makes me happy when my van is happy–I love that big bastard.
My daughter wants to bring her dog over for a playdate tomorrow–the dogs so love playing together but it sure is hard on my floors when they come in! I dry them off with a towel, but that’s a lot of busy, grubby little feet to deal with in a small mud room… Well, guess that’s what mops are for, right? Oh yay, I just noticed we have another flood watch warning going on. Just what we need!
See y’all later if I don’t blow/wash away!
I survived the closet cleaning. I can now find things in there.
Vunderkind sounds like he earned his name, Bobbio.
I’m glad you had a good visit with VKid, Bobbio! Sounds like he’s an EMT in the making!
Mr Rebo called me this morning to take me to lunch! How sweet. We went to my fave Chinese place, whereupon he informed me of the fact of his layoff. Five guys got cut. Bummer. He hated that job though, so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. It wasn’t that much of a surprise, either, since he had no seniority and work was waaaay slow.
He’ll find something very soon, I’m sure. In the meantime, we’ll be fine. The economy isn’t as bad down here in Texas as it is in other parts of the country.
It wasn’t for Misti, just for general alpaca. Link.
Yay for Vunderkid, bobbio. It’s too bad you don’t get to see him more often though.
Sorry to hear about the layoff, Rebo. I expect to have similar news from KT next week. But like you, it may be for the best for us. He works about an hour away from home, outside of the city. Any new job he finds will be closer to home. So that’ll be good. But even though it may lead to better situations for Mr. Rebo and for KT, it’s still not fun.
SmartAleq, yes, I did use the enormous needles on the purple scarf. They are 19 mm or US 35. I suffered several rude jokes in the lunchroom yesterday about alternate uses for needles that size. My co-worker loves it, put it on immediately and hasn’t taken it off since. The red scarf was also a hit. Now I want one! I have some Malabrigo Silky Merino in royal blue in the stash…
There are interesting doings in the office this week and next (discounting the layoffs) including being graced with a visit by the CEO. We already have several upper level management types here now, so 'tis interesting. What’s really interesting is with all these high level people traipsing about, we haven’t received the usual instructions to clean up the office or to stop wearing jeans. :dubious:
Home on a dreary, cold, rainy day. Luckily, it’s above freezing, so we’re not facing the icy roads that are out west of DC.
I’ve got chicken teriyaki in the oven, rice steaming, and I think I’ll add peas-n-carrots or sugar snap peas and that will be supper. I had thought about making a chocolate cake, but I didn’t. Oh well…
Two days down, 3 to go. I can haz weekend??
Hello everyone. It’s rainy and dreary here and we’re in the midst of a Pineapple Express which brings us possible flooding.
Your son sounds like a great guy, Bobbio. Of course, look at who is Dad is, the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it?
Not too much else going on here. We’re broke, broke, broke and I’m pretty much in the dumps over it. We’ll survive, but damn this really sucks.
taters, shouldn’t that be the pecan doesn’t fall far from the tree?
Please don’t hate me because it is not cold, windy, nor dreary here. In fact, today is supposed to be the last of our 80 degree days. Tomorrow we are supposed to go back down to our normal mid-seventies.
My sister sent me a DVD and CD of videos and pics her SO took in Italy. The videos especially make me want to go back again. I wrote him a great big thank you letter.
smarty, have you ever tried a paw dunking tub for the goggies? You dunk each foot and towel it off before they come back inside. A friend of mine with goggie multiples swore by this method.
The purple scarf is faaaaaaaaabulous!
Tupug
My parents live in southern PA near the MD border and they were worried about ice today. Haven’t heard back this afternoon as to whether they got the yuckiness or not. Doesn’t sound like fun whoever’s getting it.
I have so much to do but I soooooo wanna go home!
Howdy folks! Nice story bout the VKid, BBBBobbio and he does sound like an EMT-in-the-making. Congrats!
Sorry to hear about your hubby’s layoff, Rebo; thinking positive job thoughts and sending them your way, as well at to Taxi’s hubby. Oh and Taxi, your parents probably did get at least icing, if not a heavier coat of ice; southern PA was definitely in the path of the ice storm.
I decided not to go in today - partially because of the weather but also because I was just rung out from yesterday’s ordeal. I think I just got a bit too upset, but at least it did have a great outcome. I can’t say how relieved I felt to not have to worry about replacing everything!
Think I need to find a place to retire to where I can have a semblance of changing seasons but without the below 40 degree weather, so no snow/ice/sleet/freezing rain! Anyone know of such a place?
North By-God Kakalak.
Wait.
How good are you with 200% humidity and mosquitoes the size of Volkswagens every summer?
I live in the Dismal Swamp. 'Round here, 200% humidity is low, and VW-sized skeeters are medium sized.
Wow, Bobbio, talk about “Like father, like son!!!”
Sorry about hubby’s layoff, Rebo. Hope it’s a very short one.
Didn’t get nearly as much done at work as I wanted to today.
Need to get a bunch of stuff organized. I have a friend who is having a White Elephant party in a couple of weeks. Well, it’s not really a White Elephant because you can see what you’re getting, but a bunch of us get together and bring stuff we want to get rid of. Then we walk around and take turns selecting stuff to take home with us. Anything that’s left over is donated to charity. Of course, I have to sort things out into: stuff for party, stuff for future SDMB White Elephant, stuff to donate, stuff to sell, stuff to pitch. I’m pretty sure I’ll need the whole time between now and the party to make it through everything. I haven’t made it near the basement or garage yet.
So: let’s finish off the office, first.
Back later.
GT
No! The Rhino! The Giraffe is the clean up man!
Mine, too. In fact 3 of my Theatre Department finals (back ever so long ago) had to do with The Twelfth Night - Costumes, sets, and how I would direct it (would I update it or stay true to the style, and why) - I’ll be back later with my costumes sketches (yeah, I still have them - it was my favorite class)
How about Salt & Peppa? (or however the hip-hop duo spells it)
All this talk of yarn and needles and patterns and still my ruana is in limbo… : pout :
Sure - in three days
Now I’ll go read Bobbio’s story
I live in the Dismal Swamp. 'Round here, 200% humidity is low, and VW-sized skeeters are medium sized.
ETA: The ticks will wrassle you to the ground before they bite…
In my self-pitying funk I completely forgot to add congrats to **rigs **and commiserations for rebohusband. I am sorry about that.
Okay folk - (and especially Green Bean) here are the cotumes:
Lady Olivia - left, in mourning - right, in love with ‘Cesario’
Count Orsino and Viola, before she “hides”
‘Cesario’ and Sebatien
Sirs Toby Belch, Andrew Augcheek, and Fabian
Malvolio, as usually seen and in love with Olivia
Feste, as himself and disguised as a priest
also
Sir Dinadin and Guinivere from Camelot in the song Come to the Faire
and
Costumes I actually got paid to design and comstruct for a four member renaissence music group
finally (but not my final) I had to write the plot of a children’s play and design two of the main character’s costumes, So here is the story of
Zyzzygya and Tybora
Once upon a time in the Andromeda Galaxy, there was a planet called N-649. N-649 had several little kingdoms on it. One such kingdom, the Kingdom of Glork, was ruled by a jolly old clown and his wife. They had a lovely daughter name Zyzzygya, or Zyz for short. Zyz loved to spend her days dancing around Glork’s town square and colorful gardens.
On the outskirts of Glork was a dense forest, wherein lived a witch named Tybora. Everyone in Glork thought Tybora to be nasty and evil, but in reality, she was very lonely and unhappy. She knew only one way to communicate with people and that was to turn them in to grenchies and other lizards.
Now it happened one day that Zyz danced deep into the forest. Tybora was so pleased to have a visitor that she prepared to turn Zyz into a small pink grenchie. But she started her incantation, Zyz whirled around, did a few somersaults, and executed a graceful, purposeful pratt-fall. This sent Tybora into peels of hysterical laughter and she completely forgot about the spell. Zyz left the witch rolling on the ground and danced back to Glork.
When she was finally able to catch her breath, Tybora realized there are better ways to communicate than turning folk into lizards. She vowed to create new spells to cast on all those who frowned so they too wold laugh and enjoy life.
