Why is it so much fun to watch these on television as opposed to watching them on DVD? Something about knowing everybody else is watching them too.

I think it reminds me of my youth watching the specials as well as the toy commercials. Back in those days, it was how I came up with ideas for my Christmas list.

No kidding. When I was a wee Arky, I loved the Norelco commercial with the Santa sledding on an electric razor and “Norelco” becoming “Noelco”.

Although CBS will be airing the classic on Dec. 4, what ABC Family is airing on the third is actually a CGI direct-to-video 2001 follow-up, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys.

A Shrek special is on tonight.

Shrek the Halls: tonight at 8pm on ABC.

One of my favorites as a child was Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol . If you come across that one, please post it.

So chock-full-o Rankin Bass, while yet a yawning chasm for the Star Wars Holiday Special-deprived masses.

Mine too. I love the song where the kid obsesses about razzleberry pudding.

This was one of the first I checked for, but alas, there is no schedule for it in the IMDB. However I will keep checking and will post if it comes up.

I checked the ABC Family website, and it is indeed the 2001 follow-up. I figured it was, since CBS is usually the only one who shows the original Rudolph- ABC Family usually only shows the Warner Bros.-owned Rankin/Bass specials.

One not listed in the OP is Twas the Night Before Christmas (w/the nerd mouse and “Even a Miracle Needs a Hand” song), which I know my DVR has scheduled for this week sometime. Perhaps…Wed night? (I’m pretty sure it’s 7:30-8pm, but don’t remember the channel).
