Holly's "Rave On" as a metal song?

Has anyone run across such a thing?
Of course, it would lose Holly’s distinct style, but I think it’d be a good match for the genre. Ramp up the drums and change the piano bit to a lead guitar solo… might work.

I’d also be interested in other songs from that general era that have been pretty drastically remade, whether as metal or punk or electronic. Even country or folk, I guess.

I don’t know if you’d say they were ‘drastically remade,’ but the Ramones covered some 50s songs like Do You Wanna Dance and Surfin’ Bird.

Just do a YouTube search on Psychobilly.

I’ve also recently discovered that Black Metal is just distorted, de-reverbed Surf music.

Thanks! I have been enjoying my reunification with the Ramones and my exploration of psychobilly. Found The Head Cat band (featuring Lemmy), but I don’t think I’m a fan. I do like the Misfits’ “Project 1950” with covers of Great Balls of Fire, Diana, and Dream Lover.

I really liked that album from the very first time I’ve heard it. Such great fun to listen to. It’s punk that, well, swings. At the time, I wouldn’t have thought it possible to pull off playing 50s/Doo-Wop as heavy and hard as a cement pie in the face, yet there it is.

Same. I jammed to it a little this morning.

I did find a cover of Rave On that I hadn’t heard before. It’s by Victims of Circumstance, pretty punk (but with more horns that I’d have expected). A bit over-produced, maybe, but I like it.
