Hollywood and interracial relationships

Does anyone else think that interracial relationships are underrepresented by Hollywood? I can think of only three recent mainstream films in which there’s a relationship between a black and a white person – Save the Last Dance, Strange Days and One Night Stand. Other films, such as Men in Black, seem to skirt round the issue – suggesting a relationship but never showing anything so concrete as a kiss. Does anyone know the reason for this?

I have no cite for this, but I recall reading somewhere that a lot of black women don’t like to see screen representations of interracial relationships involving a black man and a white woman. Supposedly this is why Denzel Washington didn’t kiss Julia Roberts in some movie or other…

That was The Pelican Brief, wasn’t it? IIRC the black actor who played on of the doctors in ER (sorry I am crap at remembering names) refused to continue his on-screen relationship with Alex Kingston’s character because he wanted to see a positive black/black love affair. Does the audience have the same influence?
