Holy crap, plagiarized by the US Marines!

From what I’ve said I think it’s pretty clear I want to keep ownership of the design, but I think I should check that’s been understood.

Investigation and potential charges - we have similar catchalls of the commonly known “Conduct Unbecoming”, if nothing else. I don’t know if it would rise to the level of a Court Martial, we have a Summary Trial that sits below that, then there is an admin review that can be below that/happen concurrently.

Fraudulently representing another work as your own is a big deal - I would encourage the OP to work it through the appropriate channels, and thank them for taking that course of action. The Chain of Command has an interest in seeing this corrected.

The member may or may not be discharged - a lot comes down to their current status, is this a weird blip on the radar or that proverbial last straw? I have seen it cut both ways.

A simple NJP is enough to deny most Marines the opportunity to reenlist, so in my personal opinion, plagiarism is huge, especially when you’re talking about contests and the like. I’m sure that when everything comes out in the light, that Marine will burn.

The article on Popular Science magazine is up, now with proper accreditation:

The Marine Corps wants to 3D print cheaper drones

Good news!

Great, Ale. Any word from the military?

I’m glad to see the [del]wheels[/del] wings of justice are moving.

Very happy to hear this. Congratulations.

It’s out of your hands, then. Rather like the cops hearing, “I don’t want my boyfriend to go to jail, I just want him to stop hitting me.”

God have mercy on his soul.
