I hate humidity too, but at low temperatures like 21C it’s far less noticeable during the day. At night it’s always worse.
I don’t think people were bashing the OP for being a crybaby, just incredulous that she found 70 degrees uncomfortable …
and maybe a little jealous of her 70 degrees.
And just pointing out that it could be much worse.
Eek, eke! I can eke out some sympathy. That’s how fried my brain is, it thinks I’m eeking when I’m eking!
I’m incredulous. It’s 88 degrees here…at 1:20 a.m. Sympathy for the op = zero percent!
I’m Finnish; them’s fighting words you know. We take saunas pretty seriously… and people who hate them. We usually punish those people by not letting them use the sauna… I know, it’s a bit inhumane… but they’re really scum of the earth and don’t deserve better.
Btw, tried opening the door… and standing the the doorway?
This place is honestly so ridiculous sometimes. “I’m hot…” “You’re not hot enough! Why, where I’m at…”
I wonder if I start a “Jesus, I’m FAT!” thread if I could get people to argue with me how much fatter they are.
With pics.
Wile E, it’s not the temperature that is uncomfortable so much as the moisture. It feels decent outside right now, but the inside is taking a while to catch up. It doesn’t help that my windows face west so my apartment spends the better part of the day heating up like it’s on fire. I don’t know what the humidity is like in here, but the temp is in the mid-80s. Plus, unlike all you guys who are so “But here where I’m at…” I’m not where you’re at and this is not typical for here. High humidity (which, up here, is like >70%, not 39%) itself isn’t terribly uncommon but it’s not usually this high, it’s not usually this constant (weeks-long right now), and I’m not usually this pregnant. It’s MPSIMS, ffs, I didn’t think I’d have to measure sweat output to prove my hotness (not like “hotness” but that I’m so hot, temperature-wise… whatever).
Oh, the unbearable horror…
Oh you poor thing! I totally feel for you! I don’t like humidity + warmth at all.
Twelve years and two weeks ago, I was 9 months pregnant and our A/C went out. Here in Sacramento we don’t have the humidity, but we do have 100+ temps.
High heat or humidity when you’re that far pregnant, you have every right to complain all you want about how uncomfortable you are.
I think somebody’s a little cranky. Have you considered a window unit a/c?
Let me tell you what I do, OP, when I get very hot, and it gets crazy hot in my house right now with the humidity up, and I don’t have AC either, I have swamp cooling, which doesn’t work with a crap when it’s humid. I take a cold shower, as cold as our water gets, anyway, and lay down totally spread-eagled on the bed, with no skin touching any other skin. I then have all fans- ceiling, swamp, and box- blowing directly on me (luckily my bed is perfectly positioned for this). This has been known to induce goose bumps it works so well. I do hope you feel better soon and I hope you know that I, out of all these insensitive poops, was only joking.
I’m in Mississippi so I know what you are going through. It was 80 when I woke up, and I don’t really know what it feels like to not be in a humid environment. When we play golf (or whatever outside) one thing to do is either buy a “cooling” towel - I believe they are called Frogg Toggs - to wear around your neck. If you can’t, take a hand towel and roll it up with ice cubes and wear that around your neck. Drink plenty of ice water.
Sorry you don’t have A/C. Maybe take in a movie mid-afternoon?
70° and 90% is humid, but not too bad. Try 45°C (113°F) and 90%… normal Dubai day in summer.
Yeah, we’ve been toasty this summer too, In Ontario Canada. It’s cooled down quite a bit, so today it’ll only be 86F and 74% humidity. We don’t use air conditioning at home either. It’s amazing how acclimatizing yourself to the heat makes it much more bearable.
I’m really irritated that the local forecast doesn’t include humidity. Great - it’s going to be 75 today. But is that a lovely, pleasant 75, or a nasty sticky sauna 75? They’re very different days.
89 F here and 58% humidity; a “heat index” of 97 F currently (“apparent” heat as determined by real heat and humidity).
But the previous two working days (Monday and preceding Friday) the government declared its Heat Emergency Plan in effect.
Here in my agency we didn’t know what that meant, and I guessed it meant we should all stand by to make “Hot enough for ya?” jokes.
Googling, however, reveals that the Heat Emergency Plan includes distribution of fans to the vulnerable and something called “street showers,” whatever that is.
The A/C is working here in the building, but some Metro (subway) cars have no working A/C; yesterday’s ride home was like being in a sauna with a lot of other people who are definitely not relaxing.
I would do anything for 70 outside. Seriously, I don’t even remember 70. When we do get 70 I’ll have to find a sweater.
Well, I am going to get dressed in full snow gear complete with woolly hat and mittens if the thermostat even hits 80. You people who would put on a sweater at 70 must live in nice cool climates. I don’t know what you guys are complaining about.
It is so hot I feel like an offensive racial stereotype being beaten by some racists.
The heat index is supposed to be around 112 degrees today as soon as the storm passes. Right now it’s 84, but the heat index is 98, with 79% humidity.
When I pick my daughter up from school we sit in a line of cars for about thirty minutes. I have no a/c and my windows won’t roll down. When I get home my clothes will be as wet as if I’d been dancing in sprinklers. Hell if I see some I might stop and do just that.
I am soooo grateful for my window unit at home. I could not bear it without air conditioning at home. I don’t know how my Mig works construction in this heat. Especially roofing. I would die of heat stroke in about ten minutes.
Sweaty. Sticky. Itchy. My HAIR is driving me mad. I drag my Vornado fan around with me, room to room. Can’t bake or cook anything major, chug iced coffee and Coke, can’t sleep well, can’t WAKE UP! I bitch a lot about ice storms and blizzards that we have half the year - this weather is the equivalent, only summertime suffering.
That explains it then. Because that’s not bad weather my any means here in DC. 90 degrees, 90% humidity - that’s DC in the summertime.
It was 98 degrees F yesterday and humid as fuck, its going to be 98 degrees F and humid as fuck again today…90 plus degree and high humidity days forecast for the rest of the week…bring on the fall weather!
