This is the kind of stuff you would expect from Betsy devoe’s, but not necessarily the Secretary of Education.
The sheer pig-ignorance, the ahistorical views, of this privately-schooled idiot is one of the strongest arguments in favor of compulsory public education I’ve ever encountered.
I’m sure she believes slave quarters are proof African Americans can provide themselves with affordable housing.
Well the free market would have forced Harvard and Yale to accept black students because capitalism.
See! When you’re living in poverty, you don’t need big government to step in with their red tape and bureaucracy! The market will provide!
This guy must know a lot about student loans,
she was on 60 Minutes last night talking about how taking money away from schools will make them better.
The best part was, Stahl basically asked her, ‘you already tried that in Michigan, did it work?’ and wouldn’t let her tap-dance away from the question.
This is what you get when Cabinet positions are sold to the highest bidder.
“Did it work?” I have more of an answer than Betsy did: No.
The DeVos family has been boldly and proudly pumping millions of dollars into the pockets of Michigan’s Republican politicians for 20 years now. With the expressed intent of implementing the DeVos family’s pet project: Private/charter schools taking over Michigan’s education system. They’ve largely been successful in expanding unregulated charters and commandeering public money for private education. They’ve also succeeded in tanking Michigan’s performance nationally when it comes to education. Michigan’s now a bottom-10 state. Before the DeVos money corrupted our education system, 4th graders scored higher than the national average in math and reading. But then, over 20 years, we dropped. And dropped. And dropped. We’re now we’ll below the national average, which I suppose goes without saying when you’re a bottom-10 state.
Diverting money from public schools into privates and charters doesn’t work Betsy. Except to make you and your friends richer. Just look at Michigan, where we are expected to go from a 41st-ranked system to 48th by 2030 (according to Education Trust-MidWest).
From the Detroit Free Press (and this story is two years old; it’s gotten worse across the board since then):
And race, wealth and location matter not a whit. It sucks across the state from Detroit to Grand Rapids to Bloomfield Hills to Flint to the U.P. to rural bumfuck whiteville. Charter, private and public. It sucks, they all suck, and it’s getting worse. But, yes Betsy, you fucking shitbird, tell us how wonderful education is in Michigan. Oh, that’s right, you can’t. Because it’s fucking not. You grinning, lying, ass-sucking fucking shitbird. Your family has spent millions upon millions to reform the education system in Michigan into your unholy image. Stupid, and getting stupider by the breath.
You are a twisted, wretched ungodly piece of filth, unfit to call yourself an education leader. But it doesn’t matter because no matter how much you fail, no matter how much you fuck up the education system in Michigan (and the U.S.), you get to go home to your obscenely decadent home in Amway’s backyard. And maybe spend a week or two every summer at your 22,000 sq ft cottage on Lake Michigan. So even when the rest of us all fail, you can say “Welp, we tried our best, oh well. Liberals ruined if for everyone,” you will still somehow come out the big winner. You fucking twat barnacle.
Blackwater Betsy, the MILF of my dreams…baby let me in on your pyramid schemes
Detroit Free Press opinion column on the interview last night.
I saw the 60 Minutes interview. I’d give her a D. She gets credit for showing up, but that’s about it.
She should get credit for complete lack of self awareness. I’d be too embarrassed to show my face in public again.
Isn’t a complete lack of self awareness a prerequisite to be a Trumpeteer?
Agreed.
I saw a person who is never challenged. As a result she cannot respond well when she someone asks difficult questions.
Truly a person living in a bubble. Not cool with a person holding public office.
In her defense there haven’t been any grizzly bear attacks on schools during her administration.
Bears have been frightened off by all the gunfire.
I suppose it goes without saying at first, but if you all keep on your current trajectory in math education, it becomes necessary again.
Bump, for our outrage on proposed budget cuts with regard to blindness, deafness, autism, and other developmental disabilities.
