Holy shit, DeVos was confirmed

I heard this and all I wanted to do was attach a clip of the Comedian sobbing, “‘S a fuckin’ joke. It’s all a joke.”

The FF didn’t intend for the right-hand man of the PotUS to be sitting over the Senate when they wrote the rules.
They intended for one of the PotUS’s rivals to be sitting over the Senate.

So, the poster above may be in good company in re what should be.

just sayin

I think he is aware of that, considering he wrote that he was “not convinced the VP should ***constitutionally ***be able to break a tie on a position requiring Senate approval. It just seems outside the spirit of things.”

[emphasis mine]

And I agree that this is one of those things in the Constitution that could be revised. The VP is nothing more than a rubber stamp for the president at this point. At one time, it was sorta the opposite. Imagine Hillary Clinton now as the Vice President, and offering a sort of check-and-balance to Trump in the event of a Senate tie.

When that was written into the Constitution, the “spirit” of it was that the person who ran against the PotUS in the election would be the one who headed the Senate.

So, it is legitimate to speculate that it’s a little “outside the spirit” for the PotUS’s guy to be the tie-breaker.

While I have no desire to see HC in govt., I think it would be nice if we went back to the presidential candidate with the 2nd most votes presiding over the Senate from now on.

I love it!

OP: I can’t believe Republicans would confirm an idiot!
doorhinge: What do you expect? The Republicans have control.

doorhinge actually made fun of the Republicans and didn’t realize it.

Get used to it, Republicans have the majority. They could nominate Ronald McDonald to any post they could, and he’d be confirmed. Unless Democrats get out to vote in 2018 it’ll be 4 years of this.

Trump in both roles?

I gave him good advice.

FYI, stop hitting on me, creeper.

If you would only step out of your delusional, ignorant liberal bubble for just a moment, then you would realize that the exact opposite is true.

It is the Democrats that are weak. Are you not aware of the historic ass kicking that they recently have been dealt? The Democrats control nothing.

No amount of crying, protesting, grandstanding or filibustering is going to change that fact.

Donald Trump is a man with a plan, and we are now in the process of carrying out that wonderful plan, and any Democrats in the way will simply be ignored, because they are all irrelevant now.

You misunderstand; fighting liberal political views requires fighting education itself, because education correlates to liberal political views - a trend that’s only increasing with time. Republican politicians thrive among the ignorant, so they want that cohort to be as large as possible.

Hahahaha. BigT can’t read. But that not exactly breaking news.

They think that education creates liberals, so getting rid of education will ensure their dominance. (I don’t know that they are wrong on this.)

doorhinge isn’t exactly the most observant, self reflective or curious of posters.

Pretty much the ideal conservative stooge. Not only will he vote for them, and carry water for them, but he will do his best (which is pretty pathetic, really) to defend them, even while he doesn’t realize that if they knew him, they’d be laughing at him.

Then he should have no problem changing the rules. Can he count on a contribution (time or treasure) from you?

I grew up in the GOP. It has turned into a criminal racket protected by cult-like propaganda and brainwashing. Your low opinion may still be higher than they deserve.

Does this mean that the elected Democrat’s actually do have the votes they needed to prevent DeVos’s confirmation? It doesn’t appear to me that they have the votes to deny the confirmation.

The Democrat Party just can’t lose for all the winning they’ve been doing.

At least with the Dems, Country comes second. They don’t believe in God. [sub]I kid. That’s a joke. All other disclaimers as necessary[/sub]

This appointment is disappointing, to be sure. I thought, of all the nominees, De Vos would be the one sent packing.

You seem to be confusing electoral strength with moral strength. How very…well, Trump.

You can’t possibly believe this. Trump’s approval rating is remarkably low for a President allegedly in his “Honeymoon period”. If he carries on like this it’ll be less than 2 years before the Democrats regain control of Congress.

Someone’s a little full of themselves today. And oddly angry at life. Lighten up Francis, your guy’s still in charge.

She is like them, a wealthy person who believes the Republican party is the way to go.

I don’t see why the Democrats offer resistance on this issue, for they cannot change it.
