He can say it, he’s just a prick.
For some strange reason, Republicans think “Democrat” (in that context) is the worse imaginable insult. Even worse than a gratuitous use of the word “Belgium”.
Maybe they think if they say it enough (like Radical Islamic Terrorism), the Democratic Party will magically disappear.
Nobody expects the Democrat collective. Their primary weapon is a fanatical devotion to Marx.
Great. Maybe you should stop voting for the people whose fault that is.
Oh for fuck’s sake. You guys won your goddamn election. This doesn’t automatically make any given policy you make rational or sensible or even not a fucking terrible idea. If it did, we wouldn’t have Betsy DeVos as SecEd. Fucking christ, how far does this go? I’m starting to think that Trump could nominate Mike “The Health Warrior” Adams for head of the FDA and you people would still fucking crow about how you won the election when the liberals started saying, “Hey guys, why the fuck is Mike Adams in a position to determine health policy?” Can you maybe put party aside for five fucking seconds? We don’t hate DeVos because she’s a republican, we hate her because she showed herself to be utterly and completely incompetent and unqualified, with virtually no understanding of the position she’s taking over.
How far does it go? He won’t be happy until we relax and enjoy it - probably with a fake smile and a faker orgasm thrown in.
Not going to happen - this rape may be inevitable, but we will never stop fighting.
That is incorrect. It would have made her recommendation “unfavorable” but her nomination still would have passed to the Senate. Henry Wallace became Sec’y of Commerce with an unfavorable recommendation.
Trump is interesting times.
Indeed.
The last man nearly ruined this place He didn't know what to do with it If you think this country's bad off now, Just wait 'til I get through with it
Please explain how DeVos is the best possible choice for this particular position, out of other Republicans, and specifically what skills she will bring to the table to ensure that education of the children of the nation will be improved during her tenure.
May you live in conflict of interest times…
It could have been worse. I’m delighted that Trump didn’t pick David Wolfe to head the Department of Health and Human Services.
Psst. You’re gonna be late for your daily paste tasting.
And for the record: “because we can” (which is one of the only things I’ve been hearing from Republicans on this one) is not an answer to the question, “Dear god, why would you do that horrible, horrible thing?!” It just makes you sound like the biggest, smelliest asshole.
By demolishing the department and the entire concept of public education, of course.
I didn’t nominate her.
Don’t forget that Trump went on national TV and said "I love the poorly educated!” And they love him. Finally America has a straight-talking leader — what’s not to love?
Sabotaging education improves GOP electoral outcomes and has always been a GOP goal. The more poorly Americans are educated the easier it will be to Make America Great Again.
Surely you have some opinion on whether she was good choice (or not) for the position, though. Right? Why not share?
Ugh
You defend her nomination.
Either that means that you approve of her, or you somehow think that defending her on a message board will give you some sort of favor with the republicans.
I am not sure which option proves you the stupider.
Anyone who is still engaging with folks like doorhinge or octopus on this or any political subject is wasting time that could be better used in almost literally any other way.
Here’s the thing: they will never articulate a political philosophy, or a forward-looking reason, that underlies their support of someone like Betsy DeVos. They don’t have one. They don’t even want one. Winning the election - and having the chance to say neener neener, we won - was the beginning, middle, and end of their political goals. They view it the way you or I might view a baseball game: their team won, and now they have the chance to taunt fans of the losing team until the next game.
Now, certainly, the Republican Party as a whole has political goals - I may not agree with them but they exist. And doorhinge or octopus don’t represent even a large minority of the everyday voters that put Donald Trump in the White House. There are plenty of people who voted red in 2016 for clear, specific reasons; those are the people with whom it is of value to engage.
The relatively small but vocal contingent of people who want nothing other than to stick it to the other side? Why are you wasting your time and energy on them?
