Holy shit! I'm going to see Jeff Mangum!!

For those who care, Jeff Mangum was the singer of Neutral Milk Hotel, who made the (IMHO) greatest album of all time, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, and then pretty much fucking vanished off the face of the earth for a few years just as he was becoming an indie rock god.

Well, he’s been doing a bit more performing in the last few years, and is now out on tour (nothing new, just because, I guess). And I’ve got my tickets to see him on April 19th, at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland.

I’m a married, 40-year old father of four for crying out loud, and I’m giddy like a schoolgirl!

Anyone else seeing him on tour/seen him recently?

Jealous! Unfortunately, no way I’ll get a chance to see him.
You’ve just reminded me how much I loved NMH, hope you have a great time!

I just saw him last week when he came back to Athens. The 40watt was packed, and it really was one of the best shows I’d ever been to. He played two nights here - the first, the audience was so quiet and respectful it was amazing. The second night everyone sung along to almost every song. Being in the midst of a packed venue with 800 voices all singing out was really touching. People all around me were bursting into tears; It was a little ridiculous. He did two encores, and he seemed to be enjoying himself. The man has amazing breath control.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! I never thought I’d get to see him live, and it was a real treat. It was really, really worth it. In the Aeroplane… is one of my favorite albums, too.
