Home Hoist for Handicapped?

Good old Dad fell the other day and couldn’t get up. He weighs 250#, and Mom couldn’t help him up either. He wasn’t hurt. None of the neighbors were home, so Mom ended up calling the paramedics.
Dad was so embarrassed.
Anyone know of a portable hoist that Mom could use next time? Dad’s handicapped (obviously) and getting worse, so I’m pretty sure there will be a next time.
Thanks.
Oh, by the way, Dad’s 76 and Mom’s 72. She’s in great shape but won’t be for long if she has to keep picking up Dad.

(changed as below. -manhattan)

Oh, dang it. I did preview, but didn’t notice the unintended double entendre until after I’d hit “submit”.
Mods, any chance you could change “get him up” to “help him up” in the second sentence? I would be forever in your debt.
Sigh.

You might want to check out Hoyer lifts, Another Primate , although I don’t know if you’ll find one that is truely “portable”. Most are on wheels and can be used around the house, the newer versions are electronic and much easier to use (but much more expensive). You may also want to check with your local home health agencies, they are often able to help with these things.

Thanks, shell !

I’d done some googling on “hoist” but wasn’t getting anywhere. Now that you’ve provided a much better search term, I’m sure I’ll be able to find what I need.

You’re welcomeAnother Primate .

I’m so sorry for the hijack, but I needed to let Another Primate know that my email to her for the Book Swap bounced. I thought she’d be more likely to see me write this in her own thread.

Can you email me at kzaruba@umich.edu?

Thanks!
